Storyline
Announcement
The arrival of so many in the present from so many points in time is also causing something of an existential crisis. Individuals are seeing other paths they could have taken in their lives, and those who would meet an early end are particularly contemplative. Being outside their original timelines to impact and with the crisis already wreaking havoc on time itself, the fear of messing up the timeline is gone. What could go wrong? [1]
Prologue
- Admiral Pike: "Maybe, if one is unable to live a long life, than the next best thing is to live multiple lives. Or at least to see how those other lives might play out. Living through the temporal anomaly crisis, seeing my other selves, it's like looking into a kaleidoscope."
- Chief Engineer Hemmer: "Sure, it may be something to behold, but a kaleidoscope isjust distorted, fractal imagery, with no context or hint as to how it got that way. Stare at these alternate futures all you like, but it changes nothing.'
- Admiral Pike: "It's been so long, I forgot how hard it can be to tell when you‘rejoking and when you're serious- Unfortunately, there are far too many in the galaxy who don't have the enlightened view on death your people do, Hemmer. I suppose I should count myself among them."
- Farragut Kirk: "Yeah, and unfortunately those feelings aren't merely musings. Many are attempting to alter the lives of their disparate selves in an attempt to influence alternate timelines once the crisis resolves. Think you can help us out here, Captain?"
Intermission
- Farragut Kirk: "Thanks for your help, Captain. I think it's natural to chase what could have been, but for now at least, it seems your efforts have quelled this rampant desire to violate the Temporal Prime Directive."
- Admiral Pike: "Let's not speak too soon. Looks like there are reports coming in suggesting that something big is in the works. Encrypted communications intercepted by Starfleet suggest that something big is happening between the Romulans and...the Klingons?"
- Chief Engineer Hemmer: "Well, if that isn't a match made in hell! Oh...wait, relations between the two factions are different in this time period, aren't they?"
- Choice A
- Captain: "What do you mean by 'something big'?"
- Admiral Pike: "It looks like someone has been trying to get Klingon and Romulan leaders - particularly from the mid-23rd century — to unite and begin orchestrating some sort of plans for when they return to their original time."
- Choice B
- Captain: "Perhaps they're finally laying to rest generations of hostility?"
- Farragut Kirk: "Doubtful. Encrypted communications don't give me much confidence that the Klingons are just inviting the Romulans over for a visit to wait out the supernova."
- Choice C
- Captain: "Wait until you learn about the Klingon—Cardassian Alliance."
- Chief Engineer Hemmer: "I can't say I encountered many Cardassians in my time period. But this Cardassian tailor I encountered at a space station near the Bajoran wormhole was a rather interesting fellow."
- Admiral Pike: "I hate to let old suspicions eclipse any optimism, but we should look into this, Captain. A shift in the past dynamics of the Romulans and Klingons could change history for the entire galaxy."
Epilogue
- Admiral Pike: "Thanks for helping this situation with diplomacy and discretion, Captain. It looks like the Romulans and Klingons have given up on plans for a new alliance once returned to their time."
