Storyline
Announcement
Pelia’s “packrat” tendencies have put the Enterprise in the crosshairs of some less than savory individuals. It might just take the arrival of an old friend to help sort this mess out. [1]
Prologue
- Enterprise Pike: "The Collector's Guild has been on my back for weeks about some rare artifact you have in 'mint' condition. The Klingons insist you have a ceremonial blade. And did I read you have an Augment embryo? That's not even the start of my list, let alone La'an's."
- Chief Engineer Pelia: "It's only 'mint' because I treasure and take care of things, unlike the Guild. That blade was found at an old Hurq outpost while I was on sabbatical. l was restoring it. The Augment thing? Don't ask questions you don't want answers to."
- Chief Engineer Hemmer: "Is that why you were keeping all of that in the transporter's pattern buffer? Along with all this other junk?"
- Enterprise Pike: "Well, that explains why we've been having so many issues as of late. I'll have to apologize to M'Benga later. Captain, think you can help us sort through all of this?"
Intermission
- Chief Engineer Hemmer: "This statue...the minerals I'm detecting from it are only found on Weytahn. What is it doing in your collection!?"
- Chief Engineer Pelia: "It was given to me by a Vulcan ambassador when he came back from a trip to P'Jem...l was trying to restore it. Truly. I'm not trying to collect these objects for my own self-satisfaction. I'm trying to restore them and protect them from being lost to time."
- La'an Noonien Singh: "One, you cannot have all this...stuff on our ship. Two, you cannot keep storing it in the transporter pattern buffer. Three, other authorities and factions are tying up comms demanding to know what you have of theirs. And four..."
- Choice A
- Captain: "What are you trying to do with all this stuff?"
- Chief Engineer Pelia: "As I said, I am trying to preserve it. In same cases, | restore it. Time and time again, shorter-lived species prove themselves poor stewards of their most valuable artifacts, the things history needs to understand who they were when time washes them away."
- Choice B
- Captain: "Why not bring in the Collectors' Guild?"
- Chief Engineer Pelia: "Because those greedy fools don't care about true preservation or historical significance and despite what they say, they wouldn't know quality or rarity it hit them in the mirror universe counterpart. Honestly, I'm insulted you even put me on the same level."
- Choice C
- Captain: "We can store our stuff in the pattern buffer?"
- Chief Engineer Hemmer: "No, you cannot. I shudder to imagine what that would do to the ship's power supply, to say nothing of transporter functionality. Does the name Twovix ring a bell? Evil Kirk? Thomas Riker? Do you want transporter clones, because that is how you get transporter clones!"
- La'an Noonien Singh: "I would rather not have all of this on our ship, especially if it belongs elsewhere. it poses a major security risk. Captain, perhaps you can work with her and other factions to reach a compromise. To ensure these things will be preserved and maybe pare down the collection?"
Epilogue
- Kai Opaka: "Thank you for returning our artifacts, and those of other factions. To many, they are mere objects. To us, they encapsulate history, meaning, culture, connection, and in some ways, a part of who are."
