Storyline
Announcement
Time in the galaxy may be in flux through the anomaly crisis, but it appears that has no impact on the galaxy’s “true” temporal course - the Romulan sun shows signs of its impending supernova. Meanwhile, efforts to relocate the Romulan people have been anything but smooth. And the Romulans who have come from across time have had their own impacts on the present. But try as they might, no one can interfere with the cosmos…can they? [1]
Prologue
- Prospect Michael Burnham: "We find ourselves at an impasse, Captain. Even amid the temporal anomalies, time marches on. As does the Romulan supernova. Millions of lives will be lost when that star consumes Romulus and Remus."
- Sela in Shadows: "Don't speak as if you care, pathetic Vulcan impersonator. Surak would laugh at you. But I expect no less from a Federation built upon hypocrisy. Their claims to value life ring hollow as they sit back, ready to watch my people burn."
- Tallinn: "It was one of our own who chose to sabotage relocation efforts in pursuit of some misguided belief about synthetic life. The Federation can not help now. And if they could, they still would not. Painful though it may be, this is history's path."
- Prospect Michael Burnham: "Must it be? Spock himself is willing to risk his life for this. We have the possibilities of so many potential futures all around us. If there's anything worth risking diverting from the timeline, the lives of nearly a billion must be it?"
Intermission
- Sela in Shadows: "Since you and your comrades are suddenly so interested in our affairs, maybe you can look into the overzealous group of scientists who've taken it upon themselves to create their own rather potent solution to the problem. They claim their device can stop the supernova."
- Qowat Milat G. Burnham: "An overzealous group of Romulan scientists, to be specific. The device they've created is powerful indeed - powerful enough by my calculations to tear a hole in the fabric of space itself. The impact could be far worse than the one history says Spock's black hole will have."
- Tallinn:' "Pride, intelligence, and desperation are a deadly combination indeed. I've attempted to reason with the scientists, but they'll hear nothing of it. What's worse, they're so overconfident, they've convinced the Senate to halt evacuation efforts."
- Choice A
- Captain: "But if the Empire supports this device——"
- Sela in Shadows: "Desperation breeds poor judgement. Strong and brave though my people may be, they are still mortal. Romulus is still our home. A group of some of our brightest minds insisting they have the solution has managed to throw even the most discerning Romulans off-guard."
- Choice B
- Captain: "There must be something useful gleaned from the device, right?"
- Qowat Milat G. Burnham: "Perhaps. But right now, the scientists are so focussed on the device itself, that discussion is a nonstarter. Perhaps there is something there, but for now, our primary objective is to prevent them from using it at all costs."
- Choice C
- Captain: "Isn't there a chance our involvement could push them to use the device early?"
- Tallinn: "That's why secrecy and speed will be paramount, Captain. This device is unequivocally a bad idea. We need to stop them from using it."
- Prospect Michael Burnham: "Time is of the essence, Captain. We need to take action and ensure their device doesn't destroy the entire Beta Quadrant."
Epilogue
- Prospect Michael Burnham: "Captain, thank you. Because of your efforts, we can rule out a fate worse than the supernova. Though in the end, we‘re back where we started. Romulus and Remus will be destroyed. Forgive me for saying this doesn't feel like a victory."
- Sela in Shadows: "Save your pity, human. We Romulans are strong. We will face our fate - whatever it may be - with our heads held high. As we always have. We will fight to the end for our home and even if it shall fall, we will not."
