Storyline
Announcement
As the Temporal Anomaly carries on, sightings of Stasis Boxes have increased dramatically. While Vash is working along DaiMon Solok to sell these mysterious containers and their unknown contents for a tidy profit, Chuft-Captain has teamed up with the Romulans to hunt down these ancient artifacts for a more direct benefit. [1]
Prologue
- Lieutenant Sulu: "Captain, I'm sure I don't have to inform you that the galaxy has a long history of powerful, violent races. Chief among those is the ancient Slavers. And unfortunately, containers holding artifacts from their civilization have started appearing in large numbers."
- Lieutenant Sulu: "These Stasis Boxes can hold anything from meat to weapons. I once encountered a band of Kzinti who uncovered a total conversion beam, though it detonated before they could use it. The Federation needs you to track these boxes down before the contents fall into dangerous hands."
- Profiteer Vash: "If I may, Captain, the Federation wants you to find these for "galactic safety." Don't get me wrong, I don't want weapons to fall into the wrong hands. But making a profit's hardly illegal, and most of these boxes have harmless contents."
- Profiteer Vash: "You should still gather the Stasis boxes up, but what if you didn't turn them in to gather dust in a museum? How about instead you scan for anything dangerous inside, and I set an auction date? We'll make a tidy profit selling a harmless mystery."
Intermission
- Lieutenant Sulu: "Captain, there's been a great number of discovered Stasis Boxes. While the odds of weapons may be low, I worry about how many you are finding. Could the temporal anomaly have even brought back the Slavers themselves?"
- DaiMon Solok: "If the Slavers are back, that just means more to find! Vash can hardly manage the amount of requests coming in for auction tickets, much less the cargo haul from these shuttles. I say that whatever danger could come from these is just more room to exploit profit!"
- Chuft-Captain: "I give you credit, Federation. Your search found success. But you grew distracted by mercantile efforts while my crew made an alliance with Romulan agents. Our unyielding hunt found more than you can imagine. Enjoy your pittance. The Kzinti will be the first to wield a weapon."
- Lieutenant Sulu: "Captain, I need to have a clear response, what do you intend to do with the cargo boxes you found?"
- Choice A
- Captain: "I'll ensure that all of the Stasis Boxes are turned in for Federation review."
- Lieutenant Sulu: "Thank you for taking the side of reasonable discretion rather than valor in this matter. Now get to work opening those Stasis Boxes, we can't afford not to know what's inside anymore."
- Choice B
- Captain: "I'll scan for hazards, and turn the harmless ones over to Vash to sell. "
- Profiteer Vash: "Excellent news! I'll start making preparations for starting bids while you start scanning contents. I'll only take bids on the harmless Stasis Boxes, of course. No need to grate Sulu any further."
- Choice C
- Captain: "The Romulans seem the best suited for finding weapons, I'll cooperate with them."
- Chuft-Captain: "Hah, you know where to place your efforts. We will find work for your crew alongside the Traitor's Claw. When we are done, the Highest of Kzin may even take notice of your assistance. Second of course to my own deeds. We will turn the galaxy into meat for our tables! "
Epilogue
- Profiteer Vash: "I can't believe how well the auction went! I could hardly keep up with the bids. My cut will pay for my next series of digs, and they could be anywhere. The Ferengi may even write a new rule of acquistion after this: never announce what's inside the box! "
- Lieutenant Sulu: "Chuft-Captain, I know you're listening. By the Treaty of Sirius, I can bring about the might of the Federation if you don't cease all attempts to arm yourselves. You threaten war, regardless of your renegade status. And that's before the disregard for the Treaty of Algeron."
- Chuft-Captain: "Cease your threats, human. I have violated no law, as I have found no weapon. The Federation must have manipulated Stasis boxes. I will not forgive these attempts to suppress the Kzinti across all time streams. This insult will not be forgotten, I will have my revenge!"
- Lieutenant Sulu: "And like that, Chuft-Captain is gone. If only he could find glory away from a battlefield. The Federation also failed to find any weapons, but the amount of uncovered history is incredible. Your work, if misguided at times, has opened up whole new fields of Slaver study."
- Lieutenant Sulu: "I doubt we're done hunting Stasis Boxes, though we'll be better equipped to control the chaos next time a temporal flood like this occurs. I must admit I'm relieved no one's efforts found any weapons. For now, we all just have to settle for pictures, artifacts, and history."
