Storyline
Announcement
An attempt to toast (and roast) a true Starfleet hero - James T. Kirk - on his birthday goes awry when several of the personal effects gathered to honor him disappear or begin to change right in front of the presenters’ eyes. [1]
Prologue
- Captain Harry Kim: "Captain, thanks for joining us for the tribute to Captain Kirk. I figured since the temporal anomaly crisis has deposited so many legends here, we might as well pay tribute to one of Starfleet's finest in honor of his birthday."
- Captain Harry Kim: "I've been planning this event for weeks. Things have been going smoothly up until today. Several items from Kirk's past that we gathered to put on display have gone missing. And I haven't seen my guest of honor in at least a half an hour. I better go check on him."
- 1701 Jadzia Dax: "I don't think this is any normal case of misplaced items. These pictures of Kirk...something's off about them. He's beginning to fade. Some of the images have changed or gone blank. And I'm picking up high chroniton readings. Which must mean–"
- Captain Harry Kim: "He's fading away! Just like the pictures! Captain, I don't know what's going on, but with the chroniton readings Jadzia picked up, someone must be tinkering with the past. Please help us find out who and put a stop to them."
Intermission
- 1701 Jadzia Dax: "Nice work, Captain. You've confirmed my suspicions. There's definitely a temporal disturbance at play and, judging from what you've gathered, the culprit is here somewhere. Wait a second...who's taking the stage? He looks just like Captain Kirk, except for that scar..."
- Evil Kirk: "'Tribute to a Legend?' 'Starfleet's Finest?' You can't mean James T. Kirk? A man with all the spine of a tribble? You idiots are blinded to who he truly is, but I'll rewrite history to celebrate someone more worthy of the honor."
- Choice A:
- Captain: "Captain Kirk? Why are you acting this way?"
- Evil Kirk: "Isn't it obvious? To take my rightful place in history. This fool doesn't deserve all the praise you're heaping on him. And yet you all lift him up and try to do away with me."
- Choice B:
- Captain: "State your name and rank, officer."
- Evil Kirk: "Are you blind? I'm Kirk, just better. Starfleet will tell you I was born from a transporter accident that split me from what they think is the 'real' Kirk, but I've always been there. That transporter just removed all the useless noise."
- Choice C:
- Captain: "How dare you speak that way about Kirk!"
- Evil Kirk: "He doesn't deserve all of this pomp and circumstance. Have you seen the size of his temporal violations file? It might be the only thing in the galaxy to match his ego. I'm here to set the record straight."
- Captain Harry Kim: "How did he do that? He's gone, Captain, but it's a sure bet that he's gone to tamper with Captain Kirk's past again We need you to put a stop to him once and for all. Figure out where he's gone in the timeline, set it straight, and apprehend him."
Epilogue
- Captain Harry Kim: "Captain, you have my gratitude. I know the impact altering the past can have. But thankfully, it seems everything involving Kirk's past has returned to normal. Now if I can convince them to let me resume my two hour retrospective on 'James Kirk: When Valor Meets Idealism.'"
- Evil Kirk: "Great, then the audience can go back to napping! The only thing Kirk is good at is lying, but you fools at Starfleet will never see that!"
- 1701 Jadzia Dax: "I'll agree that I'm in no rush to get back for Captain Kim's two-hour retrospective, but if you think people are here solely out of obligation, you really have no concept of your progenitor's true impact on Starfleet."
- 1701 Jadzia Dax: "It's strange to think he was born from Kirk. Maybe it's just the nature of that accident that created him, or maybe just a sign of the hidden depths that lie within us all."
