Storyline
Announcement
Now that the scope of Sahil’s celebration has widened, his next task is to collect cultural artifacts from across the galaxy to celebrate the cultures of all figures being spotlighted. Gather intergalactic cultural artifacts and ensure they remain secure. [1]
Prologue
- Lieutenant Sahil: "Captain, I appreciate your interest in our celebration. Everything seems to be coming along nicely. My hope now is to gather cultural artifacts to put on display."
- Ancient Humanoid : "I am rather curious to see the material fruits of our genetic descendants' labors."
- Patar: "I am doubtful you will obtain anything of significance. What is your security strategy? How would you keep these artifacts safe and still make them available to the public?"
- Lieutenant Sahil: "What is the old saying, Captain? 'Where there's a will, there's a way'? What do you say? Are you up for the challenge?"
Intermission
- Friar Tuck Data: "Excellent work, Captain. Your security plan will be instrumental in convincing the various factions to temporarily part with their artifacts."
- Patar: "Agreed. I even find myself more at ease seeing what you've come up with. Let me ask you something, Captain, just as a curiosity. What do you believe to be the relevance of cultural artifacts?"
- Choice A:
- Captain: "They serve as physical testaments to a people's history and culture."
- Ancient Humanoid: "A sentiment I share. When our time was at hand, we were at a loss with how to connect with those who would come after us. Artifacts can often serve as their own records and messages for our descendants."
- Choice B:
- Captain: "They are tools to be used against the sentimental."
- Patar: "Crass, but I wouldn't necessarily disagree. Attachment to material goods, even those with the weight of tradition, can all too easily create an opening by which one might be controlled."
- Choice C:
- Captain: "They're inanimate objects, lacking the memories and knowledge of sentient beings."
- Friar Tuck Data: "Indeed. And yet, the significance many species assign to their artifacts aligns with their attachment to their past. I lack the sort of past or attachment that humans, for example, possess. But in some way, that attachment in itself feels human."
- Lieutenant Sahil: "Interesting to consider. Even the difference in what is considered valuable and why shows the variety between all of us. Your security plan is sure to instill confidence, Captain. I'm counting on you to make our exhibit a success."
Epilogue
- Ancient Humanoid: "What a fascinating array of artifacts you have brought from the Borg, Captain. Of every faction represented so far, theirs seems to comprise the most diverse spectrum of species."
- Patar: "That is because the Borg forcefully assimilate every species they lay eyes on into their Collective. Quite often, they wipe out those species once they assimilate what they need. For some, these artifacts are the only thing left of once proud civilizations devoured by the Borg."
- Ancient Humanoid: "How horrible. I did not realize. I merely thought..."
- Lieutenant Sahil: "That is how the Borg have operated. But my hope is that this celebration will make all factions see the unique value each group possesses. And with representatives who embody the Federation's values like the Captain, I believe we can move toward a more peaceful future."
