Storyline

Announcement

Things are not what they seem aboard Deep Space Nine when the entire space station suddenly takes on the appearance of Las Vegas during Earth’s 1960s, with different rooms and businesses appearing as building interiors from the era. [1]

Prologue

  • Decoy Kira: "Never thought I'd be pullin' the old 1960s Earth Las Vegas shtick again. Maybe Doctor Bashir's Vic Fontaine program is on the fritz, but the whole station has changed, so it seems too major to be a holo-glitch."
  • Incognito Kirk: "I doubt this is a glitch. The whole station's made up like the Vegas strip. Seems deliberate. Probably a scam run by the Romulans, or the Cardassians. Both are full of punks and finks who'd try something crooked like this. Only question is why?"
  • Decoy Kira: "You got me there, pallie. But if we're gonna get any answers, we'll need to jive on over to Quark's--or, The Dunes of Ferenginar, as it's being called now."
  • Incognito Kirk: "The broad's right. You in, Captain? You'll have to make sure you blend in, of course. You don't want these harveys makin' you."

Intermission

  • Decoy Kira: "Shoulda known a shlub like you woulda been behind this, Tolar. Get your mits off that holo-emitter! Whose payroll are you on this time?"
  • Grathon Tolar: "Payroll? I don't know what you mean or why you're talking like that, but a professional never reveals his benefactors."
  • Incognito Kirk: "You can either tell us what punk put you up to this, pallie, or I can reveal your face to the inside of a holo-reactor. Set this clod straight, Captain!"
  • Choice A:
    • Captain: "You shakin' down for the Cardassians?"
    • Grathon Tolar: "I don't know what you're talking about, but why would the Cardassians want the entire station masked in a holoprogram? They're pretty direct, if you ask me. Brutally so."
  • Choice B:
    • Captain: "You shillin' for the Romulans?"
    • Grathon Tolar: "What would the Romulans want with a mild-mannered holo-forger, really?"
  • Choice C:
    • Captain: "You hustlin' for the Ferengi?"
    • Grathon Tolar: "The Ferengi? Well, I can see your logic. That Quark fellow is milking the casino set-up for all it's worth. Did you see how much he's charging for synthale? Synthale! Just because he's serving it in one of your Earth martini glasses with an olive. It's criminal."
  • Decoy Kira: "Knock off the jokes, pallie! I don't care who you're workin' for. If you don't put the station back to normal now, I'll put you out the airlock, you dig?"
  • Grathon Tolar: "Ow! Put me down! It's not that simple. The array of holo-emitters I've set up is far more advanced than your standard holosuite! It'll take more than the handful of us. Maybe the Captain there can manage to round up some help."

Epilogue

  • Time Loop Mudd: "Loosen up, Captain, I was only trying to keep things interesting. You can't say you weren't getting into the whole Las Vegas swing! And if I managed to make a little money for my trouble, what of it? Win-win for all of us."
  • Decoy Kira: "I've had all the excitement I can stand. I don't think anyone needed your help in that department, Mudd, even if dressing up and pretending to be from another time was a nice distraction for once."
  • Time Loop Mudd: "That's the spirit, Colonel. See, Captain Kirk, you could learn a thing or two from her about learning to enjoy life a little more. Life in Starfleet's just got you too tense."
  • Incognito Kirk: "I'll pass on life advice from you, Mudd. And Colonel, I agree. It is nice to lose yourself in another time, place, or even another reality. Though it does feel strange to be using someone else's life for our own entertainment. Maybe someday someone will do the same with us."
