Storyline
Announcement
Soft power can be as effective as, if not more than, brute strength in shifting the balance in the galaxy. To that end, several charismatic individuals have begun attempting to shift the tides of diplomatic influence throughout the galaxy. But what will be the end result of their efforts? [1]
Prologue
- Ceti Alpha V Khan: "Dear friends, I believe the time has come for a more equitable balance of power within the galaxy. The Federation has displayed its insistence on remaining at the center of galactic affairs. But what of the rest of us?""
- Ceti Alpha V Khan: "I do not believe it healthy or wise for one faction to have all of the power. After all, the Federation itself touts the virtues of 'infinite diversity in infinite combination,‘ yes? But I do not believe fighting, posturing, and arms races are the way either.""
- Ceti Alpha V Khan: "So join me. I have founded a conference for all those left to consistently peck at the Federation's scraps. May we find a way of our own onto the galactic stage. Coordinates to follow this message.‘"
- Admiral Picard: "I suspect you received the same communication we all did, Captain. Of course, with Khan involved and such a vague message, one cannot help but wonder what his true motives are. I'd like you to help us investigate. To ensure this is as innocent as it sounds.""
Intermission
- Ceti Alpha V Khan: "Captain, if you wanted an invitation so desperately, you only need ask. Honestly. It does not reflect well on the Federation, especially when so many believe you are inserting yourselves into every situation, for you to be deceiving and strong—arming your way into our event."
- Lore "They can't help themselves. The Federation knows nothing but inserting itself into everyone else's business under the guise of uniting the galaxy or some nonsense. it‘s long past time for new powers to take center stage."
- Admiral Picard: "Your words do little to suggest there isn't some ulterior motive, Lore. Why wouldn't we be wary?‘
- Choice A:
- Captain: "I'm just curious about what your attendees have to say."
- Ceti Alpha V Khan: ""We welcome you then, friend. We have nothing to hide. We merely seek to share ideas, to learn about one another, and to discover how we too might play a more prominent role in galactic affairs. There's no harm in that, is there?‘"
- Choice B:
- Captain: "It's hard not to be suspicious when the event itself opposes the Federation."
- Lenore Karidian: "You misunderstand us, Captain. We are only giving a voice to those who feel voiceless. A chance for them to be heard. To share what their faction can offer. Is that so wrong?"
- Choice C:
- Captain: "I just heard Quark was buying a round of Saurian brandy for everyone."
- Bartender Quark: ""I——you——what!? Captain, Captain, I don't know who would spread such a ridiculous rumor. Surely, you would just be attending to soak up some new ideas, meet some new people?"
- Admiral Picard: "I am still not convinced. If Khan is so gracious to Invite you, Captain, then please attend the conference and ensure that speeches and soft power are all that are on offer."
Epilogue
- Ceti Alpha V Khan: "Well, Captain, Admiral, you must feel completely ashamed. What was it you expected to find at our conference? Some plan to attack Federation landmarks? A symposium on synthesizing gases lethal to Andorians?"
- Ceti Alpha V Khan: "And what did you find? Merely a sharing of ideas, philosophies, and frustrations. Perhaps next time you'll tend to your own matters and leave us to ours?"
