Storyline
Announcement
Each culture has its own unique ideas about what it means to celebrate, but when Ambassador Troi offends an uptight diplomat from a faction at the precipice of erupting into conflict, it’ll take a steady hand and a keen mind to diffuse tensions. [1]
Prologue
- Dress Uniform McCoy: '"Boy, Captain, have we got a good one for you today. Normally I hate to bother you when I know you've got your hands full, but I think we could all use a good laugh. Go ahead Spock, fill the Captain in."
- Klingon Ambassador Spock: "I fail to see the humor in a potential intergalactic incident, Doctor, but I will do my best to recount the events. We were attending a diplomatic gathering hosted by the Betazoid ambassador Lwaxana Troi. The commotion began after the arrival of the Medusan ambassador."
- Klingon Ambassador Spock: "She rushed over to meet him and release him from his transport, insisting she could 'feel his desire' for her and knocking the Kellerun ambassador's wine down the T'Lani ambassador's uniform. The Tellarite ambassador attempted to calm them both down, but only made things worse."
- Dress Uniform McCoy: "Right, right, and we don't even have time to go into how riled up the lyaaran ambassador had the Cardassian and Klingon ambassadors before this started. Anyway, we have several catatonic diplomats and a potential galactic conflict in the works, think you could help us?"
Intermission
- Festive Lwaxana Troi: "I don't care what Kollos told you via telepathy, Mister Spock. I could feel that most deepest desire and- —oh, Captain. Back so soon?"
- Klingon Ambassador Spock: "I believe you have a fundamental misunderstanding of Medusans, Ambassador Troi. They do not experience what you are suggesting in that way. Still, it is good you have recovered from your catatonic state to regain such vigor. This is thanks to the Captain and to Doctor McCoy."
- Dress Uniform McCoy: "All part of the oath, Spock. And you're sure right about the vigor part. As soon as she could, she just took off out of the infirmary. Something about fixing the Tellarite's mess. I guess this is about the whole thing with the Cardassians."
- Choice A
- Captain: "What thing with the Cardassians?"
- Klingon Ambassador Spock: "Apparently Ambassador Troi promised something to the Cardassian and Andorian ambassadors. The Tellarite ambassador, catching wind of this, raised his objections. While we were tending to the incapacitated, he and the Cardassian ambassador had a fight and stormed off."
- Choice B
- Captain: "What did she mean about the Tellarite? The ambassador?"
- Klingon Ambassador Spock: "Yes, even for a Tellarite, the current ambassador likes to "stir the pot", as the old Earth phrase goes. He believes the best way to engage with hostile factions is by targeting their most contentious thoughts and behaviors until they are driven out. I do not agree with him."
- Choice C
- Captain: "What did Kollos say, Spock?"
- Klingon Ambassador Spock: "He merely reiterated that, despite what she may say, he was not interested in Ambassador Troi romantically. Though I wish he would have omitted the specific details of what she said to him."
- Klingon Ambassador Spock: "We are counting on you, Captain, to resolve these misunderstandings and squabbles so that we may resume our Convergence Day festivities."
Epilogue
- Klingon Ambassador Spock: "Qapla', Captain, and a toast of bloodwine to your glorious victory. I am told the Klingons found your handling of the situation most honorable and I would have to agree. Now, would you like to join us?"
