Storyline
Announcement
Romulan influence over humanity has proven to have few, if any, negative effects. Billions of lives have been saved through the avoidance of wars and natural disasters, and despite the loss of centuries of human culture and accomplishments, authorities wrestle with whether those are worth what has been gained… [1]
Prologue
- Ransom Shran: "A new version of human history where you share it with the Romulans. All your species' accomplishments overshadowed by falcons and wolves. "
- Ransom Shran: "If that isn't enough to get your blood up, then consider that as perfected as this new version of humanity might be, even in their own history, the Romulans have never done anything that hasn't benefited them in some way."
- Jhamel: "I've seen first hand the cruelty Romulans can inflict. I hope very much we are wrong, but we owe it to your species to be sure. We have a Romulan contact who may have information, if we can provide him with a safe meeting. "
Intermission
- Alidar Jarok: "Our new place in Earth's history wasn't by design. Some quirk of fate--which, it seems controls our lives these days--brought this about."
- Alidar Jarok: "But my people have a knack for turning an accident to their advantage. And so they plan to do, with their new place in human and Federation history. Remember, this would now make them one of the founders--and grant them all the power and influence that goes with it"
- Choice A
- Captain: "And this would be a bad thing? What would the Romulans do?"
- Choice B
- Captain: "But this is just one alternate history among thousands, isn't it?"
- Jhamel: "What does alternate mean when all timelines and all universes have converged like this? We live in all of them simultaneously, in a way. To bring this to pass in one timeline now means they have access to its benefits and drawbacks in this one, too."
- Choice C
- Captain: "I knew it. Romulans are schemers and betrayers, all."
- Alidar Jarok: "Sometimes to your benefit, I hope you'll remember. I'll be dodging Tal Shiar agents for the rest of my days."
- Ransom Shran: "These are Romulans of our timeline, with all their prejudices and admonitions and warmongering impulses, plotting what to do with access to a universe where humanity developed in lockstep with them, and they founded the Federation. What wouldn't they do?"
- Jhamel: "We must have proof, specific plans. I have reason to fear the Romulans... but their positive influence on humanity in this alternate timeline proves they are capable of both great and terrible things."
Epilogue
- Jhamel: "In this alternate history, Romulans and Humans regard each other almost as one species, developing together on Earth since the dawn of man. But the Romulans of our history plan to sever them, irrevocably."
- Ransom Shran: The Romulans plan to first degrade the relationship between Romulans and Humans--with humans as the sub-species--until finally using their power as founders to expel humanity from the Federation entirely."
- Ransom Shran: What is humanity without founding the Federation? Without everything you accomplished despite your flaws and mistakes throughout your history? A mere amoeba, I fear--one that will go the way of your dinosaurs in short order, if the Romulans succeed..."
