Storyline
Announcement
Etana Jol has been revealed to be an agent of the Sphere-Builders, who have already altered the present timeline. While this timeline is, strangely, not so unfavorable for the Federation and several members of Starfleet, it has resulted in the disappearance of several family members and other loved ones who were previously recovered or thought safe from temporal displacement. [1]
Prologue
- Admiral Owen Paris: "The Sphere Builders have made their first moves on our timeline. It's odd, the changes have done nothing to unseat the Federation, but several rescues of Starfleet personnel family members have been undone. I believed Tom was dead for seven years. I won't lose him again."
- Cadet Wesley Crusher: "I can't imagine how you must feel, Admiral. And I know how selfish this is going to sound. But these changes are more than just missing Starfleet personnel. There are many whose lives have been prevented from going down a bad path."
- Admiral Owen Paris: "I don't understand what you mean, Mister Crusher. We need to recover the lost and set things right. We need to find a way to prevent the Sphere Builders from doing any further damage."
- Cadet Wesley Crusher: "But that's it. Changing the timeline can erase mistakes. Erase mine...and Tom's. What would life be like if we found him and he could live without the guilt of his comrades' deaths on his hands? What do you say, Captain? Think there's a way we can get the best of both worlds?"
Intermission
- Etana Jol: "Gentleman, the Sphere Builder Presage has agreed to speak with you via secure comm channel and answer any questions you might have. I believe you'll find they can be very benevolent."
- Choice A
- Captain: "Why are you doing this?"
- Sphere-Builder Presage: "As trans-dimensional beings burdened with such vast knowledge and experience, we feel a responsibility to you more linear beings. You could never conceive of all that has been and all that will be. Our only wish is to ensure the timeline moves about in a logical fashion."
- Choice B
- Captain: "Why so willing to speak with us?"
- Sphere-Builder Presage: "Etana Jol informs us you are rather suspicious of our motives. We know our guidance of the timeline is difficult for your species to accept, so we thought being able to speak with us might ease your concerns."
- Choice C
- Captain: "Why should we trust you?"
- Sphere-Builder Presage: "Granted, it must be difficult for you. You lack our perspective, bound strictly to linear time. However, we have only the galaxy's best interests in mind. We implore you to trust us. Is it not better than leaving time to its own chaotic devices?"
- Cadet Wesley Crusher: "I'm having a hard time believing the Sphere Builders have our best interests at heart, but still, what options do we have?"
- Admiral Owen Paris: "I'd honestly rather try every option in the Federation playbook before I'd trust the Sphere Builders. The second we turn our fate over to them is the second the Federation loses its heart and soul. But we're not licked yet, right, Captain?"
Epilogue
- Admiral Owen Paris: "Stellar work, Captain, and thank you for your professionalism. I must confess, retaining composure has been difficult for me. I have been very concerned for my son and, speaking honestly, I was tempted by the offer of a chance to change my son's past, to erase his mistakes."
- Admiral Owen Paris: "But the truth of the matter is that our mistakes make us who we are. As horrible as what Tom did was, especially for those families, the man his growth and experience has made him has far outstripped my expectations."
- Cadet Wesley Crusher: "You're right, Admiral. Our mistakes do mold us into the people we become. And if we erase them, we erase all the progress we have made up to this point."
- Cadet Wesley Crusher: "I wish I could undo all the hurt I caused. But I won't ever wish away all the progress I made. And now that Tom's back and safe, I'm sure he'll say the same."
