Storyline
Announcement
The same Vulcan neurological disease that threatened to claim the mind of Lieutenant Commander Tuvok has accelerated rapidly in a large number of Vulcans. The only known cure is to perform fal-tor-voh with a blood relative, but the temporal anomaly crisis has left most families fractured, unsure if their blood relatives are even in the same timeline, let alone alive. Join the Federation and its allies in conducting a galactic-wide search for these lost family members so that they may save their stricken Vulcan relatives--before it’s too late. [1]
Prologue
- The Doctor: "Diseases of the mind may be a doctor's most insidious foes, and never more tragic than when a Vulcan is the one afflicted. I'm sorry to say that we're seeing an epidemic of neurological disease on Vulcan."
- The Doctor: "I diagnosed Lieutenant Commander Tuvok, who was only cured via treatment delivered by a blood relative. Everyone's blood relatives are scattered to the winds these days, but we need to find them."
Intermission
- The Doctor: "I'm a doctor, not a press secretary. Nevertheless, I've been told to inform you that the Klingons and the Terran Empire claim the Federation is wasting valuable time walking on the eggshells of sensitivity and respect."
- The Doctor: "The Klingons believe blood relationships are sacred, and want to physically drag the reluctant to their relatives' bedside. The Terran Empire claims they can find Vulcan blood relatives without ever leaving their stronghold. One can only imagine what kind of remote agony that would mean."
- Choice A
- Captain: "If I had to guess, I'd say you support the Federation?"
- The Doctor: "I support whatever heals my patients in the quickest and least painful way possible."
- Choice B
- Captain: "The Klingons may have a point. There are lives at stake."
- The Doctor: "Even in their declining states, my Vulcan patients would surely not want their families hunted down like wild boars and dragged back for their blood."
- Choice C
- Captain: "The mental abuses of the Terran Empire are surely better than the physical?"
- The Doctor: "I suppose you're not familiar with a little ditty known as the Hippocratic Oath."
- The Doctor: "Whatever the ethics of your decision, you're the one who'll have to live with them. I have my own ethical responsibility–caring for my patients."
Epilogue
- The Doctor: "As Vulcans are founding members of the Federation, the blood relatives we've located have not demanded proof or other persuasion to come home and help. They trust that we're handling the situation logically, as you did."
- The Doctor: "My focus continues to be on my patients, of course, but I'll let you bask in the knowledge that I–err, we–were right."
- The Doctor: "Politics aside, I am grateful for your assistance. I'm a doctor, not a manhunter. Finding all of these Vulcans would have been beyond the parameters of my programming. Thankfully you haven't been spirited away by a temporal anomaly–yet."
