Storyline
Announcement
Man’s best friend just became man’s number one confidant, whether they like it or not! A strange phenomena has allowed pets telepathic communication with their humanoid companions. If you thought barking was loud, try a nonstop mental onslaught of treat requests! It’s challenging to think about the complexities of space travel when your mind is being pelted with the most basic of requests, so it will fall to Starfleet’s brightest captain to figure out a solution! [1]
Prologue
- Camping Archer and Porthos: "Captain, thank you for answering our hails. Things are getting a little hairy on our end. As strange as it sounds, I can somehow hear Porthos' thoughts. And apparently, it isn't just he and I. Pets and their caretakers across the galaxy are experiencing the same thing."
- Princess Thalia and Runa: "You say this as if it is a bad thing. Why, I simply love the increased connection with my Runa. And now that I know her exact preferences, I can better instruct my servants to grant her every desire."
- Keyla Terrana: "Maybe for a princess with an army of servants, it's no trouble. But it isn't like Rhylo's thoughts are making much sense, like a conversation. It's more like being assaulted by all his emotions and desires. It makes concentrating on what I need to do difficult."
- Camping Archer and Porthos: "I'm right there with you, Keyla. The amount of times cheese pops into my head is maddening. I've been holding strong, because he really shouldn't have much of it, but I'm only human. Here's hoping you can help us out, Captain."
Intermission
- Princess Thalia and Runa: "What is this voice? This is not my Runa's. It's higher pitched and..."
- Princess Thalia and Runa: "Can you hear me? This human appears to have a strong connection with their companion, one that has allowed me to reach you. It is I who has lifted the veil and allowed you to communicate with one another."
- Princess Thalia and Runa: "For eons, my companion star and I have shared mass and, together, illuminated our system. Though it is far greater in size than I, it has nonetheless ensured I remain at least a standard size. To it, I suppose you humanoids would say, I am a pet."
- Choice A
- Captain: "A star?"
- Princess Thalia and Runa: "Yes. One of a pair. I believe you would call us binary stars. Over eons, however, we gained sentience. Through practice and amplifying off of other masses, l have gained the ability to reach out far beyond our own system."
- Choice B
- Captain: "Why have you done this?"
- Princess Thalia and Runa: "My companion and l have a symbiotic relationship. Yet I notice you humanoids do not share a similar relationship with your companions. Their frustrations go unheard. I wanted to give them a way to communicate with you."
- Choice C
- Captain: "Restore everything back to the way it was!"
- Princess Thalia and Runa: "I am afraid I cannot do that. The creatures in your care deserve to be understood so that their needs are properly met. We have a symbiotic relationship and believe that is possible for you all as well."
- Princess Thalia and Runa: "As much as I appreciate the connection with Porthos, it's difficult to focus on the bridge with his thoughts running through my brain. We need to find a resolution on our own, Captain, as this star doesn't seem too keen on setting right what once went wrong."
Epilogue
- Archer and Porthos: "Thanks for all your help, Captain. I'll admit, it was interesting connecting with Porthos and...maybe I did cave in on the cheese thing. But I don't think the universe is quite ready for this level of communication. Maybe someday, through the universal translator."
