Storyline
Announcement
Younger versions of Q have been thorns in the universe’s side since the temporal anomaly crisis began. They are, on the whole, too immature to realize the stakes. But Carl--the Guardian of Forever--and Traveler Wesley, who know great power themselves, believe that these younger versions of Q are not beyond hope, and can be redeemed without having to wait millennia for him to age first. Join Carl and Wesley on a galactic “road trip” with a younger Q, and see if you can convince him to grow up early! [1]
Prologue
- Archaeologist Q: "Oh, you want the younger me, the immature me, out of your way, do you? Fine. I'm happy to leave. I'll take myself elsewhere, all over this universe, where you won't be able to see what me and my proteges are up to...."
- Carl, Guardian of Forever: "Heh, protege. He's got it backwards. The kid here and I are hoping to improve HIM. We think we can show him a few things that might make him less troublesome, like his older counterpart."
- Traveler Wesley: "We know who Q will become, which helps. We know a few interactions, at least with Starfleet, that seemed to evolve his way of thinking. We want to recreate those moments on this 'road trip'--with your help, if you're willing."
Intermission
- Archaeologist Q: "I don't think either of you have learned anything. It's not I who needs to become my future self. It's he who needs to return to being me. He's lost his sense of adventure. He can't appreciate the beauty of this chaos, like I can."
- Carl, Guardian of Forever: "Oh, dear. Doesn't seem like we're getting anywhere. You know this being, kid. Any bright ideas?"
- Traveler Wesley: "Past success doesn't indicate future results, I guess. Maybe we need to forget what we know about Q and let someone else do the teaching."
- Choice A
- Captain: "We know Q can change. We need to hang on to that."
- Traveler Wesley: "We're all capable of incredible transformation. We just need someone to believe in us, to guide us, like I had with the Traveler."
- Choice B
- Captain: "Can you elaborate, Ensign?"
- no additional dialogue, go to Traveler Wesley's "I think we need to let Q see..." response
- Choice C
- Captain: "Frankly, I think the entire Continuum's useless."
- Carl, Guardian of Forever: "Careful there, Captain. Wouldn't want to go painting a whole species with the same brush."
- Traveler Wesley: "I think we need to let Q see how other rogues have done it. The beings that we find terrifying or overwhelming or just don't understand--like him. Except that we've found ways to get along with them, to work together to make things better. Even this Q's capable of that, too."
Epilogue
- Archaeologist Q: "Boys, I've seen the light. I've been selfish. Of course my elder self needs help. He's practically geriatric. It's one thing to torture mortals, quite another to torture myself. Well, it stops now! Off I go to lend him a hand. Two, even...."
- Traveler Wesley: "I suppose he could just be lying... but I don't think so. Even if his motives are still self-serving, at least now he's doing the right thing, and we won't have to worry about him causing trouble anymore--"
- Data Q: "What is it you humans say when you wish someone to stop speaking? You know how I long to be human. Oh, yes, now I remember: shut up, Wesley!"
- Carl, Guardian of Forever: "Another one? Ugh. No good deed, eh, Captain? We'll fix this one up, too, now that you've showed us it can be done. Come on, kid, let's hit the road...."
