Storyline
Announcement
A group of Starfleet’s finest bridge crew who, while not being captains of their own starships, have assumed temporary command positions for a special mission. Starfleet has rolled out a brand-new batch of upgraded California-class ships in time for a research mission in a newly discovered nebula. The temporary officers have been assigned to assist the rookie captains of these vessels. But when disaster strikes, they know precisely which Starfleet captain to turn to for help! [1]
Prologue
- Acting Captain Tilly: "H-hey, Captain! I mean, thanks for answering our hails. We're having a bit of trouble out here. We're all helping out the new captains of the shiny new fleet of California-class ships, but our work in this nebula has been a real mess."
- First Officer Data: "A mess? How so? The ship I am assisting on is rather clean and perfectly in line with Starfleet regulations."
- Acting Captain Arex: "I believe that is a human turn-of-phrase meaning we have encountered difficulty. And we have. Captain, we are counting on your expertise to help us with our individual missions out here while keeping the new ships and their crews in working order."
Intermission
- Acting Captain Arex: "Thank you, Captain. It would seem many of the most dangerous facets of our mission have been addressed. That being said, I noticed that many of the new crews suffer from a lack of cohesion. I recommend we dedicate some time to addressing this matter."
- First Officer Data: "Personnel training is outside the scope of our mission. We were dispatched to assist in researching the new nebula. Anything else would be an inefficient use of our time."
- Acting Captain Tilly: "But we were sent because of our experience, to help the crews and captains work better together. I mean, I get it, it's not exactly the exciting 'explore the new nebula' stuff, but if we do this now, it'll help everyone in the long run."
- Choice A
- Captain: "I agree. This is just as much a part of our mission."
- First Officer Data: "I see. So even though this is not our mission, in completing it, we will be indirectly aiding in completing our primary objective. It is fascinating how human minds work."
- Choice B
- Captain: "How would we go about addressing this issue?"
- Acting Captain Arex: "We have plenty of Starfleet personnel training protocols. But with all your experience, I'm sure you have some great insight as well."
- Choice C
- Captain: "I'm with Data. Let's get back to the nebula stuff."
- "When you say you agree with me, but use casual language like 'nebula stuff‘, it is difficult to parse whether you are being serious or not."
- Acting Captain Arex: "You have a great deal of experience to pull from, especially in dealing with the anomaly crisis. We are counting on you, Captain."
Epilogue
- Acting Captain Arex: "I speak for myself and every captain in the fleet when I say thank you, Captain. They have all reported vast improvements in ship~wide operations."
