Phantom Pain
Evidence suggests the temporal anomalies are causing the frequent disruptions to the Collective. The Borg seek the Federation's aid in solving the problem, but factions offering assistance may prove to be more trouble than their efforts are worth.

Storyline
Announcement
Now that the temporal anomalies are confirmed to have an increasingly harmful effect on the Collective’s ability to stay connected, there is a need to investigate potential solutions. [1]
Prologue
- Arjin: "It looks like our efforts to track the cube carrying Cadet Picard have turned up something else of interest. The temporal anomalies seem to be disrupting the Borg's ability to control cubes beyond a certain distance."
- Arjin: "The Borg are displeased. They have already begun pulling their people back to the Delta Quadrant until they can find a solution."
- Lt. Commander Icheb: "Nothing would please me more than to see them leave the Quadrant. The less of them here in the Alpha Quadrant, the better."
- Blood Oath Jadzia: "I get that your feelings for the Borg aren't exactly fuzzy. I'm not a fan either. But if we chase them off, our chances of finding Cadet Picard drop to zero. We need them. And who knows what will happen if they're left to brood in the Delta Quadrant. We need to maintain trust."
Intermission
- Arjin: "The Collective seems to have taken a shine to you, Captain. They applaud your willingness to help them in spite of all the bad blood that exists between them and the Federation."
- Lt. Commander Icheb: "They should be grateful. With all of the factions offering to help the Borg with their issues maintaining control of the Collective, there are plenty of bad actors that surely have their own corrupt motives in being so wiling to offer their help."
- Choice A
- Captain: "Profit is obviously the motive for the Ferengi."
- Lt. Commander Icheb: "Isn't it always? But I think to assume they're after that and nothing more here would be dangerous. There could be a lot of value in extorting the Borg--and a lot of danger."
- Choice B
- Captain: "The Cardassians' ardent interest troubles me."
- Blood Oath Jadzia Dax: "Nothing good, I'm sure. Knowing them, they're likely looking for opportunities to reap whatever benefits they can from unrestricted access to the Borg's technology. We need to keep a close eye on them."
- Choice C
- Captain: "The Augments and the Borg have a great deal in common."
- Arjin: "For better or for worse. They both share an obsessive interest on [sic] attaining perfection at all costs. An alliance between the two could produce an unstoppable force, one I'd never want to face in battle."
- Lt. Commander Icheb: "As much as the idea of helping the Borg maintain control of the Collective sickens me, we can't go back on our word now. Let's do what we said we would, but be smart about it."
Epilogue
- Lt. Commander Icheb: "Captain, thank you for all your help. As uncomfortable as I am helping the Borg, we managed to resolve their issue with the temporal anomalies. The Augments, though, were clearly out for their own game. Clearly they're more sly than we gave them credit for."
- Blood Oath Jadzia: "I wouldn't worry too much about the Augments. If they wanted access to the Borg's technology, they would find a way to get it, no matter what. But the Federation has put them in their place before and if we have to, we'll do it again."
- Arjin: "I admire your confidence. Have you seen how massive some of those Augments are? At any rate, I guess all we can do for now is focus on finding Cadet Picard."
