Storyline
Announcement
Several science and engineering greats from across Starfleet history have come together to design a new class of starship. The event has attracted personnel from all experience levels - and more than a few uninvited guests. [1]
Prologue
- Aleek-Om: "This is truly a historic moment for Starfleet. So many great minds from throughout its history, here in the present and collaborating on what might be its greatest engineering achievement."
- Honored Owosekun: "It's a legendary opportunity, but that's exactly why the recent rash of on-site accidents has me so frustrated. Replicator malfunctions, stolen parts, and even a fire during the testing of a new plasma core."
- Honored Owosekun: "We took all necessary precautions. On top of that, I've been hearing reports of some uninvited guests hanging around. I certainly have my suspicions about who could be behind this, but I'll keep them to myself."
- Commander Uhura: "We need to investigate this matter further before we jump to conclusions. The last thing we need right now is some other faction accusing us of trying to drag their name through the mud. Captain, I'm counting on you to handle this matter quickly and quietly."
Intermission
- Honored Owosekun: "Good work, Captain. I'm not surprised the Romulans would stoop to this level, but I hoped their alliance with us during the Dominion War would have cooled hostilities a bit."
- Aleek-Om: "When distrust and suspicion have burrowed themselves as deeply into a people's culture as they have the Romulans', it can be difficult to ever truly dispel. At the very least, the Captain here managed to find them out and now, hopefully we can prevent further interruptions."
- Commander Uhura: "I don't want this historic opportunity to go to waste. Captain, what do you suggest we do about the other uninvited guests you caught lingering around?"
- Choice A
- Captain: "Send them on their way, just like the Romulans."
- Commander Uhura: "I see. Maybe it would be best just to limit this opportunity to those of us within the Federation. We do have some of the best minds in the galaxy working in Starfleet, so it should be more than enough."
- Choice B
- Captain: "The Augments' technical knowledge might be useful."
- Honored Owosekun: "I'm curious to see what they come up with, especially if they're as intelligent as they're made out to be. Here's hoping they can keep their ambition in check though--I don't want to worry about policing them too."
- Choice C
- Captain: "I guess we could put the Ferengi to work, provided we can trust them."
- Aleek-Om: "Your hesitation is understandable, but I must insist you give the Ferengi credit where it is due. Competition, desire, and even greed can be fertile ground for innovation, provided they exist in moderation."
- Commander Uhura: "Now that we've gotten rid of our uninvited Romulan audience, we can focus on the starship prototype. If you wouldn't mind sticking around, Captain, we could use your help compiling research and equipment."
Epilogue
- Commander Uhura: "Captain, thank you again for all your help. I'm certain this project will have a place in Federation history and, thanks to you, we were able to get the greatest variety of input."
- Aleek-Om: "Indeed. I do hope that this experience has also been educational in the sense that playing our cards too close can be restrictive for us in the Federation. It is unreasonable to expect other factions to trust us when we don't reciprocate."
- Aleek-Om: "It would be interesting to see what we could come up with if we managed to collaborate with all of the factions of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant."
- Honored Owosekun: "It would be, but do you think that kind of peace is attainable? I mean, if that kind of peace existed, maybe we wouldn't even need Starfleet anymore."
