Storyline

Announcement

As officers from countless timelines try to contain the temporal anomaly crisis, each has been following the regulations of their own time, regulations which are often in conflict with Starfleet of the present day. As these conflicts reach a breaking point, the Federation has called for a new program at Starfleet Academy, one that will train current officers to abide by common principles in a universe that has grown unfamiliar, and prepare new officers for the unexpected threats of these trying times. [2]

Prologue

  • Captain T'Pol: "There has been an incident on Troyius. The Troyians appealed to the USS Eagle for help in their renewed conflict with the Elasians. Despite Starfleet's current protocols, the crew shared advanced technology with the Troyians."
  • Captain T'Pol: "We've just received word that the Elasians have captured the USS Eagle in retaliation. In exchange for the crew's release, they're demanding Federation technology to restore their equal footing with the Troyians."
  • Admiral Willaim T. Riker: "A century ago, that call might have been the Eagle's to make, but today it's unacceptable. Their actions are a symptom of a larger problem, but that'll have to wait. For now, your orders are to defuse this situation so we can bring the crew of the Eagle home."

Intermezzo

  • Admiral William T. Riker: "I just received word that the USS Eagle and her crew have been released. Starfleet Command will decide how to deal with their violation of the Prime Directive, but you and I have another issue to discuss. Why the Eagle gave that technology to the Troyians in the first place."
  • Admiral William T. Riker: "I'm sure that crew believes they did the right thing, and in another time, they might've been right. But no matter how firmly we believe in Starfleet's ideals, those ideals can change–and thanks to the temporal crisis, none of us are playing by the rules we once knew."
  • Admiral William T. Riker: "That's why you'll be designing a new training program for Starfleet Academy. We need every officer, from new cadets to seasoned captains, to follow the same protocols and principles no matter what year they're from."
  • choice A
    • Captain: "What about your cadet training, Admiral?"
    • Admiral William T. Riker: "It's a stopgap, not a permanent solution. I'll always keep an eye on Starfleet's officers as best I can, but we can't keep fixing issues of protocol after the fact. We need to stop them before they begin."
  • choice B
    • Captain: "What if I think the crew of the Eagle did the right thing?"
    • Admiral William T. Riker: "Then I'll find a captain with a better grasp on the Prime Directive, and you'll be the first through their training. I understand the Eagle's sympathy for the Troyians, but their personal feelings put two worlds and dozens of officers in danger. We have to be better than that."
  • choice C
    • Captain: "Cadets, captains... how about admirals?"
    • Admiral William T. Riker: "I said that every officer needs this training. No exceptions. I'll be the first one through the program once it's ready, and I expect it to be a challenge."
  • Admiral William T. Riker: "The Eagle isn't the first ship to come down on the wrong side of procedure in the temporal anomaly crisis, but if this training works as intended, maybe it'll be the last. Make sure your program does Starfleet proud."

Epilogue

  • Commander Kira: "If Starfleet Academy's other courses are anything like this new training of yours, Captain, I'll be impressed. I might take a few tips back to the Bajoran Militia, if you don't mind."
  • Commander Kira: "I wasn't exactly happy about following Starfleet regulations when I got stationed on Deep Space Nine, but they've grown on me. The more officers who are fighting for the same thing, playing by the same rules, the better odds we have of keeping the galaxy safe.
  • Admiral William T. Riker: "Agreed. I'll still be keeping an eye on Starfleet's finest to make sure they remember their new training–yourself included, Captain. But I hope this shows every officer what today's Starfleet stands for. All of us have a part to play in that, wherever–or whenever– we come from."
