Storyline
Announcement
After years of silence, the Vulcan exile Sybok has begun to see visions again. He is leading his followers to what he claims will be a paradise, but when doubts arise over the source of these visions, it is up to you which way you will lead Sybok and the many hopeful citizens who follow him. [1]
Prologue
- Sybok: "After all these years, my mind's eye is open once again. The visions of my youth have returned! I've seen a paradise untouched by mankind, a world free from pain and suffering. And I can take you there, my friend."
- Sybok: "I will guide us through the darkness if Starfleet will provide the ships. Consider it a humanitarian mission, if you like. I've promised my followers a new home in paradise, and we cannot get there without your help. So what will it be? Will you join us on our voyage?"
Intermezzo
- Sybok: "My visions have led me astray again. This world is no untouched paradise–it's a Maquis hideout! I promised my followers a new home, and yet...we cannot stay here. Perhaps with the Augments' help we can build our own paradise on another, safer world."
- Durango Troi: "It's awfully convenient that Sybok's visions would lead him right to us. Maybe they weren't visions at all. I think he was led here by someone who has it out for the Maquis, and if we don't break his hold on his followers, he'll only lead them into more danger."
- choice A
- Captain: "Why are you siding with the Maquis, Troi?"
- Durango Troi: "I may have played the maverick in Alexander's Ancient West program, but when I found myself on a Maquis ship, they made a passionate argument for their cause. They could use a little less rebellion, so I'm acting as a sheriff or sorts. Starfleet sensibilities while empathetic to people like Sybok's followers."
- choice B
- Captain: "What evidence do the Maquis have for these accusations?"
- Durango Troi: "This desert world is nothing like the paradise Sybok saw in his visions, and yet they guided him straight to our base. That can't be a coincidence. Leading a mob of strangers to someone's door is a smart way to get that door knocked down while keeping your hands clean."
- choice C
- Captain: "You've been misled before, Sybok. Why should I follow your lead again?"
- Sybok: "I'm not asking you to follow my visions this time. I'm asking you to help me keep a promise. These people came to me from every walk of life with only one thing in common: hope for a better future. I swore I would help them find that, and I owe it to them to keep trying."
- Luther Sloan: "Well, Captain, I see no point in denying the obvious. Section 31 planted those visions in Sybok's head. On his own, he and his followers are dangerous, but in our hands, they could be a valuable tool. We hoped that under our...guidance, they'd remove that Maquis base for us."
- choice A
- Captain: "I won't just let you turn these people into weapons, Sloan."
- Luther Sloan: "We're not the ones manipulating them–Sybok is. They've chosen to follow him due to no interference of ours. We're merely putting his convictions to better use."
- choice B
- Captain: "It's a relief to know someone has this mob under control. Sybok can't be trusted."
- Luther Sloan: "I'm glad you understand the risks he and his people pose, although we don't have them under as much control as we would like. That's why I wanted to speak with you."
- choice C
- Captain: "Why are you so interested in Sybok and his followers?"
- Luther Sloan: "Many of the threats we face can only be eliminated, but I'm a pragmatist, Captain. I couldn't throw away an opportunity to turn this threat to our advantage. Under our control, Sybok is no longer a liability. He's an asset."
- Luther Sloan: "Sybok's proved to be more resistant to our visions that we expected. However, I'm confident that if you bring him back under our sway, we can guide him and his followers to defend the Federation from its enemies."
Epilogue
- Sybok: "Thank you for helping us get here, friend. This new planet can hardly be called a paradise, but it's ours, and ours alone. It won't be an easy life, but with the help of the Augments' inventions, I believe we can make it a good one.
- Sybok: "However, I cannot allow myself to be led astray again. I will study the Vulcan disciplines of my youth and try to strengthen my mind against any further...intrusions. I hope this will be enough to keep us safe. If I'm lucky, one day it may lead me to the true visions I seek"
