Storyline
Announcement
While Herb Rossoff always believed in the idea of his colleague Benny Russell’s stories, he never believed they were literally real… until now. One minute, both he and his boss Douglas Pabst were standing in the Incredible Tales office, and the next, they find themselves in the Alpha Quadrant--and Pabst didn’t survive the trip. Herb doesn’t believe that Pabst’s death was due to some accident of physics, but rather that he was murdered shortly after arrival. Can you help Herb find the real ending to this incredible tale? [1]
Prologue
- Herbert Rossoff: "This is... unbelievable. Never in a million years would I have thought those stories Benny was writing about the space station and all were real, but... here we are. If he could only see all this now. It all seemed so far-fetched."
- Herbert Rossoff: "I'm just trying to take it all in. Hell, I wanna write it all down, my mind is just buzzing with possible stories, but–where's Doug? My boss, he was with me just now, when we were still in the Incredible Tales office."
- Herbert Rossoff: "I mean, I guess maybe he didn't make the trip, but what fun would that be? Uh, I mean, that doesn't seem realistic to me. He was right next to me, and now he's gone."
- Herbert Rossoff: "I don't know anyone here. This whole thing's a little over my head. But I might as well play along. You're a captain and you seem pretty savvy. Do you know of anyone who might be able to help me?"
Intermission
- Herbert Rossoff: "Dead? Doug is dead...? I thought this outcome was possible...I just hoped it wouldn't actually come to pass. But you said these temporal anomalies pull people from different points in time, right?"
- Herbert Rossoff: "If that's true, then that supports a theory of split timelines. That there are versions of Doug that can still live out their natural lives... I hope so, at least. Still, I owe it to this Doug to find out what happened."
- Combat Medic Paris: "It is theoretically possible that he was torn apart by the physics of time-travel. But there's a community of us here, all brought by those temporal anomalies. So how come we made it and he didn't?"
- Choice A
- Captain: "This was no accident. This man was murdered."
- Herbert Rossoff: "But who would kill Doug? And why? Did someone else follow us from our time? Maybe an angry ex...? Maybe another time-traveller? What if Doug was wrapped up in some alien conspiracy?"
- Choice B
- Captain: "I'm with Paris. There's still much we don't know about the anomalies."
- Combat Medic Paris: "Exactly. It seems the most plausible explanation to me, albeit a sad one."
- Choice C
- Captain: "Do I look like Dixon Hill to you? How should I know?"
- Satin Lily Sloane: "Dixon Hill? Now there's something I'm actually familiar with. My dad loved those novels. Still, you're more familiar with this time period and the temporal anomalies than any of us, Captain."
- Satin Lily Sloane: "This place is so unfamiliar to me, and Herbert, I'm sure you feel the same. I don't see any reason not to trust Mister Paris, but there's only one way to find out what really happened."
Epilogue
- Combat Medic Paris: "If all of this information is true... Pabst was hit by my weapon. When I got dropped here–when we all got dropped here–things were so chaotic, I didn't know where I was, who anyone was... the gun just went off. I didn't want to believe it...."
- Herbert Rossoff: "It's all right, son. War–even a reenactment of war–is hell. I lived through the real thing. I couldn't blame anyone who would want to distance themselves from that reality."
- Combat Medic Paris: "Still, I shouldn't have lied to you. I should have owned up to the possibility that this was all my fault. I just didn't want another mistake as part of my life story."
- Herbert Rossoff: "Past, present, and future... in the end, it's all the same. We're all human. At least now, I know what happened to Doug and I can bring his story to a close. For me, the adventure may be just beginning...."
