Storyline
Announcement
Journey to Meridian in the Gamma Quadrant, in search of Garth and Eden. Meridian, is visible once every sixty years. Scans reveal a lush topography and several humanoids below. [1]
Prologue
- Torpedo Surgeon McCoy: "Meridian isn't like anything we've encountered before. It's an interphasic planet -- it exists in more than one dimension, and is only visible to us once every sixty years, for a very specific window. Chances are there isn't anyone alive right now who has seen Meridian!"
- Lieutenant Chekov: "Captain, I'm reading that Meridian is an M-class planet with lush vegetation. I'm reading a cluster of humanoids on the surface, but you won't believe this. They're M-113!"
- Torpedo Surgeon McCoy: "But...the one we encountered was the last of its kind! At least that's what we were led to believe. I wonder whether that last one knew about this colony on Meridian. With the interphasic time window, I doubt it. What I do know is those creatures are dangerous."
- Torpedo Surgeon McCoy: "The M-113's can siphon out all the sodium from other creatures. That's the salt in our blood and sweat. I can't recommend we go down there without taking some protective measures first. Would you help us engineer something to keep those fellows from getting too salty?"
Intermission
- Torpedo Surgeon McCoy: "This equipment should do nicely, Captain. Thank you! Those M-113's shouldn't give us any trouble now. And I hope you'll come with us, Captain. It's historic -- You won't see this planet again in your lifetime!"
- Choice A
- Captain: "Is Meridian really Eden?"
- Torpedo Surgeon McCoy: "We can search for any remains of the Aurora crew. Otherwise, if Eden is Meridian but they never found it, Garth may choose to make it his own Eden, in order to escape to other dimensions! Guess we'll see."
- Choice B
- Captain: "How will we communicate with the M-113s?"
- Torpedo Surgeon McCoy: "Oh, I forgot to mention...we don't have to! They're telepathic! We will just read each other's thoughts. Pretty neat stuff when they can't physically hurt us anymore."
- Choice C
- Captain: "What will we do to defeat Garth?"
- Torpedo Surgeon McCoy: "We will alert the M-113's as to what's going on, and do what we can to offer resources and defense."
- M-113: You hear the M-113 speak in your mind: [Thank you for coming to our aid. We know you are here in friendship. We will accept your assistance. You have nothing to fear from us. Garth is on the planet and intends to make war against us.]
- Captain James T. Kirk: "Kirk to away team. We've got company up here. It's Commander Keras of the Romulans again. Perhaps they can help us, or we can accept the aid that was promised by the Ferengi. We could also call in Federation reinforcements. Captain, I'll act on your recommendation."
Epilogue
- M-113: "You hear the M-113 speak in your mind: [You have our thanks, as does the Federation. We should be able to defend Meridian now.]"
- Torpedo Surgeon McCoy: "How about that. On a planet that's only seen once every sixty years, we've managed to turn a former enemy into a friend. These are exactly the kinds of things that made me want to join Starfleet. What about you, Scotty?"
- Scared Scotty: "Captain! Doctor! It's Garth! He's built...a machine..."
- Garth of Izar: "Oh, you'll quite enjoy it, I think! It allows ME to control the phasing cycle of this planet! I can speed it up, or slow it down... Right now, I think I'll speed it up and take you all with me to the next dimension. And...there! The countdown has begun!"
