Event pages include crew not present at the time of the event

Due to the use of the SACharacter template, the event pages now contain character versions as providing a bonus when these characters were not even introduced. See e.g. Liberty for All, that now contains Mintakan Riker as bonus crew. Haven't got a clue how to solve this. Attack eyebrows (talk) 20:01, 14 April 2017 (CDT)

The simplest fix for this is to check which characters were present in the game during those events and replace the CrewName template with a gallery displaying those crew members. For future events, SACharacter should NOT be used. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. Titantalk 18:06, 20 April 2017 (CDT)

Mission Names (Episode/Distress Calls)

Hi Everyone, Id like to bring up a possible issue for confusion with the new release of the Distress Calls - Klingon Empire. If all Episodes and Distress calls continue the procedure of abbreviating to the sub-name (in this case Klingon Empire), it will get very confusing. Klingon Empire is also the name of a faction in the game. In the case of The Delphic Expanse, its a potential future location. For the Episodes, I wouldn't be surprised if one is the name of a future mission (not episode).

Details:
 • All links would need to be changed to the format:
 • Episode # - <EPISODE NAME>
 • Distress Calls - <DISTRESS CALL NAME>
 • OPTION 4: An alternative is namespaces could be added for Missions, Crew, Characters, Items, Events, Locations etc. I think this could be a very nice solution as it would make finding pages much easier. In this case, a page such as Captain Kirk would be moved to Crew: Captain Kirk.
Details:
 • Items would encompass all items and equipment (not differentiating between them, and Items is a shorter word).
 • Events would be for actual event pages.
 • Pages such as Events, Crew, Missions, Daily Rewards, Time Portal, etc. would remain on the (main) namespace, with no prefix.
 • It really could be expanded as much as would be useful.
 • The goal would be to have all names be in the format of Captain Kirk or just Crew: Captain Kirk.
 • If this is implemented, all pages would be moved leaving redirects behind. One by one, all redirects would be examined using "What links here" (on the sidebar), and deleted.
 • This option has, by far, the best long term effects.
 • It will make finding Crew pages, Item pages, etc. much easier.
 • It will also improve the clarity of what pages are what without looking. (Many event names and mission names can be confused)
 • It can also be used to help make some templates function better. (Using mw:Extension:DynamicPageList3)

Personally I think this the namespace option is the best option. Although it is the more difficult, requiring moving pages and changing links. Much of the work though would be just changing links in templates. Please vote below for a solution. Titantalk 02:14, 12 July 2017 (CDT)

Option Summaries
OPTION 1: Change Klingon Empire to Distress Calls - Klingon Empire
OPTION 2: Change Klingon Empire to Klingon Empire (Distress Calls)
OPTION 3: Change all Episodes and Distress Calls to be in the format Episode # - <NAME> and Distress Calls - <NAME>
OPTION 4: Add Namespaces for Crew, Items, Missions, Events, Locations, Characters, etc.
What should we do about page names and possible confusions? (See above for descriptions)

I don't see the need to change any of this. Currently, there *are* no name clashes, and even if there were some, a disambiguation page will usually be quite sufficient. There are also no confusions, as the page "Klingon Empire" (or any other faction "home page") didn't exist yet, and thus wouldn't be looked at. Faction centers have their own pages.
Hardly any page links to the episode titles such as "The Art of War" or "Delphic Expanse", so I don't see the relevance of changing it. By far most, if not all, "What links here" entries merely result from the MissionNav template.
If you guys really feel the need to change these names/links, I won't vote against it and would be happy with any of the OPTIONS 1-3, as it will affect only a few page names anyway (7 episodes + 4 distress calls + 3-5 cadet challenges).
However, concerning OPTION 4, though, I really don't see the point, or the benefit. It would mean unnecessarily changing 2000 pages and creating an equal number of redirects. We already have all major pages assigned in categories, grouping and listing them according to their type, such as Category:Crew, Category:Items, or Category:Missions.
Your biggest argument seems to be "make finding Crew pages, Item pages, etc. much easier". How is that problematic/difficult at the moment, using search function, categories, or nav templates? If it is, maybe something can be improved there instead then? --Crunch (talk) 03:57, 12 July 2017 (CDT)
Good arguments all around. I see Crunches point of "don't fix what isn't broken" but I really like the anticipating approach of Titan. So I like the idea of putting something in place that allows future changes to the game easily being addressed in the wiki. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 11:45, 12 July 2017 (CDT)
Yeah, I like the future expansion idea, especially if we can use the namespaces in templates like SACharacter to make then auto populate instead of manually editing it ever week. But, man, that's going to be a lot of work to get everything into a namaspace. But also, we've done a lot of work like this plenty of times with Server Changes, mass formatting edits, and the like.
I'd vote for 4, reluctantly. But I will ask that the namesapces be short, 4 or 5 letters long. like Crew, Event, Epi -for episode, Mis -for mission. That sort of thing.--Siguard (talk) 15:15, 12 July 2017 (CDT)
Personally, I think that the names should be as clear as possible, while also trying to be short.
 • Crew:
 • Item:
 • Mission:
 • Location:
 • Event:
 • Episode:
 • Character:
In the case of Character, Episode, Location, and Mission I don't see any abbreviation that would be clear while being short. I can do a test run by making an Event namespace sometime next week. This will be an over-time migration. Probably the order would be Events -> Episodes -> Missions -> Characters -> Crew -> Locations -> Items. Items will be the hardest by far because of the ItemX templates. I'll probably look into making a bot that changes all references to a page to the new link.
Keep in mind though, all pages will have redirects from the old page, until no links point to the old page.
Also, PAGENAME will be unaffected, only FULLPAGENAME will be affected.
 • PAGENAME for User: Titan results in Titan
 • FULLPAGENAME for User: Titan results in User:Titan
 • PAGENAME for this page results in Community portal
 • FULLPAGENAME for this page results in Star Trek Timelines talk:Community portal
Ill post an update once I have added an Event namespace, and moved some pages. For the test run, I won't be deleting any old pages. Pages will only be deleted after an additional poll confirming the change is ok. Titantalk 02:47, 13 July 2017 (CDT)
About the old pages: please keep in mind that it's in almost all cases undesired to delete the original pages (which will then be redirects) and replace all references with links to the new naming scheme, as it will
 • be much more work when adding content (=always be forced to type prefixes or even piped links for 90% of all wiki links)
 • people will inevitably forget to add the prefix, creating broken links
 • it will impede readability. A few arbitrary examples: "Ship: USS Enterprise encountered Apollo on Location: Pollux IV." "Only Crew: Lieutenant Valeris and Crew: Mirror Phlox have higher combined average proficiencies." etc.
 • and most importantly, it will clutter the available screen space, especially in item pages, crew advancement tables, and so on.
So once the redirects are created, they're here to stay. It will of course often make sense to do change certain links to visibly point to the prefixed version. But it does NOT make sense to replace every single link with a piped link like Captain Kirk just to get rid of the redirects - redirects are not that expensive. --Crunch (talk) 06:58, 13 July 2017 (CDT)
Fair point. Crew and Character redirects make sense, but Missions and Events, as well as Episodes im not so sure. I think it will be a case by case basis. Items obviously redirects make sense, locations yeah. We will see Titantalk 14:54, 13 July 2017 (CDT)
I completely agree with Crunch and all of his arguments on this. Some (partly rehashed) points:
 • The main reason of existence of the wiki is its contents, everything else is subordinate to that. The data of the wiki mostly comes from regular users. Already users have difficulties adding data to the wiki, some even don't dare to add data. Increasing the complexity in this way will probably make that problem worse.
 • Some ambiguity is a part of life and virtually every wiki. That's the reason for disambiguation pages (e.g. Vulcan). But the ambiguity is not new, currently very limited and there is no reason to assume this will suddenly change, or even in the long term. I feel OPTION 4 is hugely over-engineered. It is disproportionate to the currently perceived problem. As Crunch stated, I don't see the benefits. (I do understand the tendency to find a technically "clean" solution to a problem, getting rid of exceptions etc., but I feel it is not appropriate here.) --Tygra Dax (talk) 02:00, 14 July 2017 (CDT)

Passive Ship Item Stats

Passive Ship Item Stats

Hiho!
I noticed Middlehead using acc on some item pages. While this will result in an incorrect icon and link (=colored icon, which means something different), I really liked the idea of adding an icon here (although technically there is none there, in-game).
So I extended the skill template with new keywords for passive ship stats, which will now show the correct white icon (=the icons shown if a crew has this active bonus ability), and also link to a more useful place. See that page for examples and the appropriate keywords.
So instead of Accuracy we'd use passiveacc (resulting in "Accuracy Passive Accuracy Stats") on the item pages from now on, and so on.
This has the additional advantage of maintainable links/redirects: As we currently don't have a good/separate/consolidated page explaining these 4 stats, I made all 4 link to Starship Battles#Passive Ship Stats, which I extended a bit, and from there links go to the more detailed descriptions (of which we only really have two, the crit ones). If the wiki ever gets a dedicated or at least more detailed page(s) explaining these stats, we'd now ONLY have to edit skill, instead of all the individual links in each of the gazillion item pages.
For cases such as this, is there a replacement bot or something which craws over all item pages (and only these) and replaces these?
Thoughts?
Cheers, --Crunch (talk) 17:02, 24 July 2017 (CDT)

Expanding on this, I created a template and embedded it into the ItemPage template so that now, when an item has a passive skill, the "PSSB - <skill>" category will automatically be applied. The template works for both the old way "+## Accuracy" and this new way "+## Accuracy Passive Accuracy Stats". Also, with this, I changed all of the Crit Chance to Crit Rating. That's how it's seen in-game, so it should be seen that way here too.--Siguard (talk) 11:10, 2 August 2017 (CDT)

Translation into other languages

Heyho, Paulquappe my name and i want to ask if you guys would let some players translate articles into other languages. i would love to help, i'm german. but if there is noone thinking this is a good idea i would like to not take my time for this^^ --Paulquappe (talk) 01:56, 29 July 2017 (CDT)

HI Paulquappe, Unfortunately adding language support to a wiki isn't quite as easy as adding other extensions. As such, at this time we will not be adding other language support to this wiki. I would suggest adding a google translate add-on/extension to your web browser, to auto translate any pages into German. Creating pages on this wiki in other languages is not an option, as this is an english based wiki. Its not possible (again, without adding multiple extensions and significant amount of setting up those extensions) to have multiple homepages, etc. Under preferences you can change your language, which will auto translate the base media wiki software, but not pages. Hence Google Translate. Sorry, Titantalk 02:04, 29 July 2017 (CDT)
well, this was a fast and easy understandable answer, thanks, Titan! i do understand english, so no need for me to use translations-tools, but others might not and some things are not quite easy to translate. well, i understand why it is hard work to include other languages now, thanks for the time :) --Paulquappe (talk) 02:13, 29 July 2017 (CDT)

Base skill L.1 changes?

Hiho everyone!

What do we do about the recent base value changes of usually -1 or -2 for several characters, also differing depending on the fusion level? I think they introduced them with the server update somewhere around Aug 16th-18th.

Did anybody keep track of these? Do we know what exactly they changed (i.e., if skill X got modified for a certain fusion level at a specific level, can we assume it's really a base value change, and therefore the change applies to ALL xp levels of that fusion level? or is it completely random, even between different levels? and so on)?

It makes no sense to change individual values in the character tables, as it will become quite impossible very quickly to backtrack, which values already include the update, and which are outdated values, so most crew skill tables will become inconsistent over time. :-(

We will probably need a page just like for the proficiency change ( User:Crunch/20160917_DB_Proficiency_Change ) - but for each fusion level (at least)... :-(

Any infos? Any ideas? Cheers, --Crunch (talk) 11:45, 26 August 2017 (CDT)

I have been thinking that having all the levels for a character isn't necessarily useful. Perhaps we should eliminate all levels besides 1, 50, and 100? Obviously keep all rarities, but eliminate the rest of the data. That would make this (and all the future, which I'm sure there will be many) change/s take much less effort to fix. Just a thought... Titantalk 15:40, 26 August 2017 (CDT)
Hm, I don't think that "They changed something that affects a lot of places in the wiki, so let's just remove that content" is the best approach... :-/
Also, these tables help to get a quick overview to which items give how much of a bonus, (for example as in "how far do I need to level a certain crew before (s)he becomes useful int he gauntlet), and so on. --Crunch (talk) 15:48, 26 August 2017 (CDT)
I'm now pretty sure the change was in preparation of the starbases, as it almost always seems to be just "rounding errors"(=+-1), so they probably changed some internal algorithms/formulas/variabl types, as opposed to actually modifying the actual character stats.
Speaking of Starbases - these will wreak havoc with everything, as people entering data will inevitably forget they have a bonus of X% on skill Y, will be unable to subtract the (correctly in-game rounded) bonus from their visible stats, and so on. So essentially ANY page showing some form of character related skill numbers (=every crew page, the 6 skill overview pages, all cadet lists, every user page displaying crew, ...) will now become fuzzy over time.
Anybody got any ideas for that? :-/ --Crunch (talk) 05:47, 1 September 2017 (CDT)

Voyages

Is anyone preparing basic informations about voyages? We would need administrator to add it on homepage, I suppose. My first notes: seems that the voyage will last several hours max ; needs ship ; the stuff you can get from it includes cadets (got Nurse Kes) and Honor (also chronitons, items, credits, training ...) -- Hkmaly (talk) 18:25, 20 September 2017 (CDT)

First voyage failed. First hour the amount of antimatter grew a little ; next one or two hours consumed half of antimatter and that's including dilemma. Next hour consumed second half. I suppose everyone already knows but it's not on wiki yet ... -- Hkmaly (talk) 20:13, 20 September 2017 (CDT)

STT Wiki Mobile View vs Desktop View

Hello, everyone. I believe I created the newest fleet wiki page so I am still relatively new compared to all of you but I do have a lingering question I just can't seem to get any headway with Google on. I will admit that our wiki page is pretty robust, however, I like how it looks on my mobile phone but absolutely hate how it looks on my laptop or 27" iMac. I want to know if there is a way that I can edit my page so that it is optimally formatted for either the computer or mobile device depending on who is looking at the page? I think this is rather important now that STT has allowed the game to be played on Steam as well as Facebook. My thinking is not all members would use the wiki page just on their phone and I want to build a product that looks beautiful on both. I do have experience creating my own website and it allowed me to edit the desktop site version and the mobile version so that my content looked great no matter what anyone used. If this is not an option then I will continue to build it for the mobile platform since I believe that most traffic would be from a mobile device.

Thank you in advance for any help/recommendations anyone may have. --MulezSti (talk) 22:46, 25 September 2017 (CDT)

Not possible using mediawiki at this time, sorry :/ Titantalk 23:25, 25 September 2017 (CDT)

Embed Video on Fleet Page

Hello Everyone,

Quick question... Thought this was the more appropriate location for it rather than the forums.... Anyways, is it possible to embed a video onto my fleet page?

Drunk Shimoda (talk) 09:38, 7 December 2017 (CST)Drunk Shimoda

Hi, You can embed a video using:
<embedvideo service="youtube">INSERT YOUTUBE LINK HERE</embedvideo>
Please do not upload videos though, they take a lot of space on the server and will be deleted. This is not directed at anyone, but in general If an embedded video is not appropriate, the user who posted it will be permanently banned. All videos though be "PG-13" or lower. Titantalk 12:07, 7 December 2017 (CST)
Understood... Was thinking of doing an intro video thing, but if it could cause server problems, will not bother (will just add the link for redirected viewing on YouTube). Thanks... Drunk Shimoda (talk) 12:17, 7 December 2017 (CST)Drunk Shimoda
Embedding a video wont cause any issues, just dont upload a video. (i.e. Dont upload a video like you would an image, as videos take significantly more space). Embedding a video doesnt store it on the server, it will fetch it from youtube. Embedding a video will not cause any server issues, however it could take your page slightly (0.5 seconds perhaps), longer to load. Titantalk 12:46, 7 December 2017 (CST)

Cryostasis Vault Bonuses

Hey all, are there plans for a way to input your own bonuses from the Cryostasis Vault so that they can be integrated into crew pages via the ATSB template the same way that starbase bonuses are? --Darxide (talk) 13:53, 8 March 2018 (CST)

First, i think DB added the ability to see base stats when you click the info button on the crew. Otherwise right now i think you’d have to calculate fleet bonus + collection bonus. Titantalk 14:22, 8 March 2018 (CST)
Yea, ATSB would need to be reworked. The basic concept I have is that it would no longer take extra arguments. On crew pages you would just need to use basestat and it would return the Base Stat * (Starbase Bonus + Collection Bonus). Just need a place to be able to enter your own collection bonuses. I'll leave it up to people who are better at making templates than I am. I can create basic stuff or make modifications to existing templates, but this is just a bit above my expertise. --Darxide (talk) 08:46, 9 March 2018 (CST)

New missions

Hiho.
As I'm not really active in the wiki anymore nowadays, please note that several templates need to be updated when there are new missions available: User:Crunch#Adding_new_missions. They are necessary for drop tests and the page navigation on the mission pages, amonst others.
I'll add Infinity now, but somebody else might want to do this in the future instead. --Crunch (talk) 15:15, 13 October 2018 (CDT)

MediaWiki 1.32

Thank you to the admin who updated the wiki. It was a long time coming. There's still a few teasing problems, like the crew count still not displaying properly or the Category:Crew Vault head page missing some pictures etc. The crew count is off by 2 on the main page. Other than that, thanks.

--Captain Spirk (talk) 07:33, 17 April 2019 (CDT)

Looking at the list of fleets page, the table has a space for images down the left hand side. For instance, Discord Continuum has this image:

File:Fleet_DiscordContinuum.png

However, when updating the list, I can't change the image to anything as the template doesn't have an option that I can see. I'd like to change the DC one to this image:

Email verification fails 2019-09-30 23:30

Hello, I’m VERY unfamiliar with this environment or how to interact with it properly.

I created the STT Wiki account in 2018. Apparently I didn’t verify the email address at the time. A friend reminded me of this resource and I’m visiting again. I noticed the non verification message while reviewing my account profile settings and attempted to correct the issue. When no email was received I tapped the Send email button and received a failure message. If I can add the screenshots successfully the details will be there.

I use mobile devices only at this time. Primarily an iPad. This appears to be designed for Windows. Dropping the screenshots is not an option for me in the area above. I’ll try tapping it and see what happens.

Found the upload button and the screenshots are now attached.

Thank you for your attention.

Category:Crew Full

To the admins and myself, ː),

I'd like to make a suggestion regarding the Category:Crew Full images.

I think we should have a standard resolution for the Category:Crew Full images or is there one already to keep the images uniform.

Some of the images are taller than others, while others are smaller. Which is appropriate and is there a standard for the Category:Crew Full? Is the one that User:Siguard have been doing the regular size?

Thanks.

Starbase Components

I want to create a wiki page for holoemitters, but I feel like this is going to take permission and/or guidance from wiki admins. Tritanium could fairly easily be done at the same time, though isn't necessary. I expect starbase components may have already been discussed, maybe a lot, and clearly they have not been given any room so far, so I suspect there is resistance to do so, so I am asking before I create a page.

The main point of starbase component pages for me would be the drop tables, especially for holoemitters being the rarest of them. I see two main ways to add them to drop tables. One that follows the convention of mission loot being listed in the order it usually is in game. This is not practical as it would required thousands, maybe tens of thousands of small changes throughout the site. I.e. adding holoemitters (and optionally also tritanium) to 3(+?) drop tables for every pve space mission, and then more importantly changing the drop tables on every item page for items that drop from any of those space missions, so that I don't break every other drop table.

The easier way that I see would be to break with convention and put holoemitters and tritanium at the end of the list of drops for each pve space mission, for each difficulty. That would be waaaaay faster, shouldn't break existing item page drop tables, I think, and would only have to be done for the missions that one wants to at a given time, when someone has drop data to enter.

For example, for space missions with three drops in existing drop tables (i.e. 3 non-stabse items), they are listed as simply 1, 2, 3 on the mission page drop tables, in the order that they usually appear in game. The thing is for most missions the in game loot list is actually more like: item 1, crew xp, smaller denomination crew xp, credits, holoemitters, tritanium, item 2, item 3, captain xp (assuming you warped it). To follow the first method, following the convention of the usual in game loot sequence, holoemitters would become 2, tritanium would become 3, the old item 2 would be 4, and the old item 3 would be item 5. I expect someone is going to tell me to never even dream of doing that and I wouldn't blame them. But following the second option, ignoring the loot sequence convention for starbase components, items 1, 2, and 3 won't change, holoemitters can be added as item 4, and tritanium as 5. I don't expect this will affect drop tables that only use currently items 1-3, and I think should be able to be added one mission at a time.

I was playing around with a possible start of a holoemitter page yesterday, but I figured I should ask before I change any space mission drop tables so that I could have the beginning of a holoemitter drop table. The drop table would be the main useful part of the page in my mind. I tried working a crafting table to suit holoemitters, if for no other reason than that seems to be the wiki convention for the place to have item images. I didn't figure out how to exclude "item costs" and "crafts into", or to remove the default item costs, which of course are not valid for starbase components. And listing every mission that they drop from is probably pointless once one makes a drop table, especially since they don't drop from cadet challenges, arena battles, and I don't remember them being rare rewards. So unless someone knows how to adapt the crafting table to make sense for starbase components, maybe the item image can just go near the beginning of the page.

What do the admins think?
