Full Crew and Crew Head images

I didn't mean to ignore you, I just got distracted and forgot to reply to this. I don't use that datacore page, so I don't know how accurate they are on names. To be safe I would wait until the new crew's page is up before uploading images, just to make sure the name is right. It's not often, but there's been a few times where the name DB/WR used in pre-release info wasn't correct and I had to move pages & images. That's why I stopped entering early and don't make new the new crew members until they're in the game. Middlehead (talk) 10:38, 16 October 2020 (CDT)

Crew Description

Hey, yes you added the images correctly :). As far as the descriptions, id suggest adding them to the {{Infobox crew}} after Character. Speaking of, any idea why there is "Other versions"? that seems redundant because the Character link is the same page. Titantalk 04:30, 12 November 2020 (CST)

Variables/Discord

Hey, yup, that was me on discord. I keep discord open in a tab so i see a little notification icon on the favicon if someone sends me a message (only when im on my laptop). I check here once a day also for messages.

To answer your question about variables, there are a few ways to do this.

  1. Use subpages as variables. Perhaps use User:Captain Spirk/Immortalized Crew/Total. This is my favorite way of doing so, and actually considered this for storing all crew stats on crew pages. Although I'm not sure that will work well in this case.
  2. For this usecase, you could create subpages User:Captain Spirk/Immortalized Crew/rarity/crewname, with categories "Category: User Captain Spirk <crew_rarity>", and then generate the table using dpl, and pagesincat to get totals. An example of using dpl are the 2 sub-templates for the {{CrewNav}} template. Although in this case each page User:Captain Spirk/Immortalized Crew/rarity/crewname would have the table row that would then be used in the table. dpl tutorial
  3. noinclude, onlyinclude, includeonly guards. This has the limitation that it is hard to include multiple different sections (variables, portions, etc) of a page. If you just want that table, put <onlyinclude></onlyinclude> guards around the table, and <noinclude></noinclude> guards around the rest of the page.
<noinclude>
This section is visible here; but this section is not visible there. Sections outside of these tags will be visible both here and there. This can be used in multiple spots on the same page.
</noinclude>

<onlyinclude>
This section is visible here; this section is also visible there. Sections outside of these tags will be visible here, but will not be visible there.
Only one set of these tags can be on a page.
</onlyinclude>

<includeonly>
This section is not visible here; but it is visible there. Sections outside of these tags will be visible both here and there.
This can be used in multiple spots on the same page.
</includeonly>

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions. Titantalk 21:08, 2 December 2020 (CST)

Template:CollectionInfoBox

It looks like the script doesn't like having the same crew appear twice in the list, it only acknowledges the first entry. When I swapped the lines around I could makes Timelines Originals appear and Wild West go away. I ended up putting both collections in the one line for G.Uhura, it seems we'll have to do it that way for any future crew that appear in more than one manual Collection. Request Permissions

Ahoy Cap'n. I don't plan to use your crew manifest layout, but would it be okay with you if I gank your code for counting crew? That VARDEFINE / EXPR combo is not one I've seen before, and I really want to work with it. Muchas gracias in advance. Atticus (talk) 21:54, 18 January 2021 (CST)

Hi Captain,
According to wiki's Creative Commons Zero (Public Domain), you don't need permission as everything on the wiki is licensed. So you are free to use my counting crew or whatever part of my page you see fit. According to User:Titan though, he says that it would be nice of you to give them credit on the page itself, or at least in the edit summary so it appears on the history page (or on the talk page). Something like, "Page layout originally designed by ___, modified by ___." You could also leave a message on their talk page saying you are using there layout, and that you like it. Totally up to you, given the license.

Fair enough, I just thought it polite to ask. Thank you for your guidance. Atticus (talk) 09:29, 19 January 2021 (CST)
Glad to be of assistance. --Captain Spirk (Talk) 09:57, 19 January 2021 (CST)
You can also get more help on the left sidebar, by clicking help. The definition of #vardefine: are there, along with #expr: I sometimes find it hard to find, but you can do a search on there. --Captain Spirk (talk) 06:55, 21 January 2021 (CST)

Div tags

Hey, So the div tags on the page adjusting position were causing the space at the bottom of the page. The tables were set to change their height as well. Typically doing this isnt a good thing as it can mess with other aspects of the page outside of your control (such as how long mediawiki things the page needs to be displayed). If i screwed up anything, feel free to undo the changes i made, but figured it was easier to show then explain. :) Titantalk 00:11, 28 January 2021 (CST)

Ship Ability and Bonus

It's in the game now, at least most of it - they give the Ability info, but not the PSSB numbers, on all characters now. When the new event splash image starts coming up you can go into rewards and load it there, or if you go into the vault and click on the silhouette for a character you don't have it'll give the same. This also gives the 1/5 and 5/5 AwT stats. Middlehead (talk) 15:09, 17 February 2021 (CST)

There's no easy way to look up the PSSB numbers that items give, you just have to watch the screen immediately after you equip each item. If the item gives Away Team stats you'll see those values change on the left side of your screen, if it gives PSSB stats that number will pop up in the middle of your screen and then fade out. Midwife Worf

Mornin', cap'n. Looks like (I hope) we're three-tracking the new Worf (you, me and DLefev). I get a weird error whenever I try to put in stats for 2* at a level where you haven't put in the 1* stats. I'm saving screenshots of the crew details so I can fill them in when the 1* is done. Let me know if there is something else I should be doing. -- Atticus talk 21:00, 11 March 2021 (CST)

Oh GD it, I just figured out that someone has to keep track of the skill min/max, and that's why I was getting the error, and after lvl 50 I didn't do it. -- Atticus talk 00:50, 13 March 2021 (CST)

Full Body Portraits

I download directly from the game server. I do not use Steam. I have also gotten images from Datacore.

Jobs

Added a new cronjob for running wiki jobs. They were getting backed up apparently. As far as the other question, i have no idea, sorry. Titantalk 17:56, 19 August 2021 (CDT)

Crew Description Pages

I set them to Full because the Head pictures are already present in the SACharacter block. It doesn't make any sense to duplicate an image that's already on the page, so I set the Infobox to the Full portrait of what I see as the most recognizable version of the character. I've never made a template for those pages - I just go back to the most recent one I made, copy the source for formatting and update the information. Middlehead (talk) 15:42, 26 August 2021 (CDT)

I agree they should be standard too, I just think the standard should be using Full in the Infobox. The SACharacter block is the grouping that shows you other variants of the character, with that already there I don't think it makes sense to again have the headshot be in the Infobox, it should be something different.
Like the Barclay list below; that's all the headshots of all his versions, so it doesn't make any sense to have the Infobox show on Barclay show one of those images a second time. Having the Full portrait of one of his versions gives a different and better representation of the character on that page, instead of a duplicate.

Arne 200px Full

With the different resolutions that the images come in, the 200px doesn't always look good. That makes the Arne image too long, they need to be proportional to the page. You shouldn't have to scroll to see the whole image. I've standardized all the characters to be proportional to their character page. 200px is a guideline, not a rule. Why enlarge it??? Ace (talk) 14:24, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

OK. Maybe we should change all the Full images to the same size then to make them even.
Speaking of Crew Card, I think that 1701 Sisko's text should be changed. His text reads Time Displacement Sisko, whereas it should read 1701 Sisko. Just a suggestion.
And also a suggestion, which is just a minor one, is it possible to make the font the same font and size as the previous fonts?
--Captain Spirk (talk) 16:31, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
The problem is resolution. The images are not all of the same res, so it very difficult to make them even, without extensive reworking of the pic itself. So I apply a cap to their size, mostly to bring them down to a manageable level, a few are so small, I've had to raise them. They just come from the game that way.
I am happy to move a card to the front of the line. There's hundreds to do, so I've just done whatever. I'm going to try and do the newest crew regardless, and the oldest because it's a strain on the server. As for the font, I have no idea what DB used originally, so I just chose what looked close without being too outlandish. I've done all of them the same. If this goes on long enough, I'll probably get around to replacing all the originals with new ones. When I asked Shan for details on how the originals were constructed, she had none. They aren't even making them anymore, so...Ace (talk) 03:35, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
I figured that. Also, with the Template:CrewNav side of things, I suggested we use the Head shot instead of the Full body image. That way we wouldn't have to run into problems like this. At least with the Head image, they're almost the same size. But I was overruled. Maybe you should make a suggestion as well unless you agree with both Titan and Middlehead.
--Captain Spirk (talk) 04:05, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
The full size image on the Character page? Initially I was for the headshot, but the Full makes sense. We talked about it on Discord for a bit. That's what lead me into updating them all to Full and then trying to size them appropriately. It's a little more trouble, but looks better.
I did the 1701 Sisko Card.Ace (talk) 17:38, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

Text replace

Did you see my link to this? Special:ReplaceText Might be tricky for some things, but you can review what it finds and pick and choose replacements. Ace (talk) 04:22, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

How would I go about using this in a Template context?
--Captain Spirk (talk) 04:58, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
Link correction. Ace (talk) 23:49, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

Archiving talk pages

Hey, I just make a new User talk:Titan/Archive/# and copy whatever i want to archive to that page, then remove it from my talk page. That makes it so the conversations are still easily accessible, but my talk page isn't excessively long for future conversations. Titantalk 00:09, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

ItemX Page

We just have to leave it. The template doesn't work right if you try to turn off one of the middle columns, it'll still show all of them and just shift the headings left. Middlehead (talk) 22:22, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
