Storyline
Announcement
A new species - the Pupaians - have initiated first contact with the Federation along with a plea for help. One of their own is completing the species’ sacred Final Voyage - a voyage that takes them to the end of their current life in preparation for the next. However, unexpected interference has interrupted the voyage and you will be asked to join them in facing death itself.
Prologue
- Boreth Pike: "Hello, Captain. Got a unique assignment for you, today. A warp-capable species, the Pupaians, have reached out to the Federation for assistance on their species' sacred voyage. Their final voyage, to be specific."
- Chief Engineer Hemmer: "Reminiscent of the Vhnori, the Pupaians value control over their own passing, whenever possible. Many Pupaians near the end of their biological life elect to take this voyage, in which they make peace with this life before reaching their final destination - a black hole."
- Doctor M'Benga: "...where they believe they will find their next life. As a doctor, the thought of guiding someone to what is likely their death is difficult. And yet, that is what we are being asked to do, as Pupaians making their final voyage are being attacked en route by unknown assailants."
- Boreth Pike: "Yes. I'm sure you have some complex feelings on this one, Captain, as we all do. But we can't ignore a call for our help like this. Meet with the Pupaians and give them a helping hand."
Epilogue
- Doctor M'Benga: "Well, Captain, if i ever find myself having to venture near a black hole, I hope it's on your ship. That was smooth maneuvering. But I can't stop thinking about the Pupaians and their belief about the afterlife — their faith in transformation...to say nothing of their Choice..."
- Chief Engineer Hemmer: "Perhaps it is something more in line with how my people see death. We believe that death comes only when you have completed your purpose. Then and only then. Perhaps the Pupaians' way is a way of taking control of their fate."
- Boreth Pike: "It can be hard to fathom. But that idea of transformation is a powerful one. Maybe it's not so different from us humans. Leaving Earth in search of something more. Staking our hopes on the stars. And in the future."
