Storyline
Announcement
For some who travel the galaxy, the Gorn are merely boogeymen, shadows looming large over their imaginations, but not beings they’ve met in reality. Though relations with the Gorn have improved, there is still much about them that remains a mystery. But when an unassuming Federation vessel stumbles into an area with a large concentration of Gorn, the reptilians see their trespass as a threat and launch a vicious attack. Gorn ships spread throughout Federation space and Starfleet calls for all hands on deck!
Prologue
- First Officer Una: "What better way to say 'welcome to the 24th century' than by sticking us on a Gorn mission, huh? It looks like a Federation ship stumbled upon a territory protected by a horde of Gorn ships and now they've set their sights on any and all nearby Federation targets."
- Lt. Commander Ortegas: "Ugh, Gorn. | get that you all supposedly have a better relationship with them in this time period, but I'm not seeing it. Do you even know how they--"
- First Officer Una: "THANK YOU, Lieutenant Commander. We don't know if the Captain here is just coming off of lunch or not, so maybe we should save that detail. Anyway, if relations really have improved, there must be an explanation for this. Captain, we're counting on you to rise to the challenge."
Intermission
- First Officer Una: "Thanks to you, Captain, we received a response. Unfortunately, it's not the invitation to diplomacy we hoped for. The Gorn are accusing the Federation ship of trespassing on space reserved for their nurseries. They see it as an act of aggression, so they're responding in kind."
- Commander Uhura: "Strange. There's no data suggesting that area is Gorn space, nor is there anything on Gorn nurseries in the modern era. I suppose it's naive to hope they've found other, less lethal methods of reproducing, isn't it?"
- Lt. Commander Ortegas: "Ugh. If these nurseries are using humans and other species for breeding, I'm already out of sympathy for them. What do you think, Captain? What do we do?"
- Choice A:
- Captain: "I'd rather not go to war with the Gorn..."
- First Officer Una: "Agreed. l believe we can get through to them, but considering our past experiences with the Gorn, they rarely respond well when they sense weakness."
- Choice B:
- Captain: "There has to be more to the story..."
- Commander Uhura: "I agree. The Gorn Hegemony may not be the most temperate entity we've encountered, but this sudden hostility suggests something bigger's going on here."
- Choice C:
- Captain: 'If they want a fight..."
- Lt. Commander Ortegas: ""Right! We'll bring it to them! One of our ships stumbles into their space and they send an entire fleet? We can't just take this lying down."
- First Officer Una: "It looks like we're out of time for discussion. The Gorn ships are gearing up for another attack. We're following your lead, Captain."
Epilogue
- Lt. Commander Ortegas: "You're not bad at the helm, Captain. Nice flying. Looks like the Gorn have cooled down enough that they're willing to do some talking."
- Commander Uhura: "I just finished decoding an encrypted transmission. It looks like they're facing a medical crisis impacting their young. They set up satellite nurseries as a form of quarantine."
- First Officer Una: "Interesting. The way they've described this crisis is very similar to one that impacted the Saurians about a decade ago. I believe Starfleet played a role in helping them treat the illness. Let the Gorn know we may have a solution to offer them if they give us the chance."
- Commander Uhura: "They're retreating. I'd say that's about as close to a 'yes, please' as we're gonna get from the Gorn."
