What is the Gauntlet

"Q created the Gauntlet to ensure your crew is up to the challenge of repairing time and space. Can you prove your worth against other Starfleet captains?"

The Gauntlet is a PVP area for players' crews to compete against each other, using their proficiency values. That is, only the skill "range" a crew has. The base skill of the crew member is completely irrelevant, as well as his total skill. Furthermore, the proficiency values are determined exclusively (except a minor fraction every L.1 crew starts off with) by the items a crew member has equipped. Therefore, the fusion level of the crew member is completely irrelevant, meaning a crew is exactly as strong as its counterpart, as long as they have the same items equipped.

A player selects 5 crew to compete in the Gauntlet, which lasts 2 days, currently starting and ending at 12AM UTC. Gauntlet contestants are grouped into sets of 200, which are filled as people first enter the Gauntlet round, but competition cannot begin until 50 people have entered the set.

These selected crew members remain assigned to the Gauntlet and cannot be exchanged until the Gauntlet ends. However, they are free to be used elsewhere, such as shuttle missions or events. They can even be dismissed or frozen while the Gauntlet is running, although this carries repercussions. Any player attempting to use an inactive crew member, or a player challenging another player's inactive crew member, will suffer a game crash or forced restart. Note that the skill stats of a crew member are locked for the Gauntlet when assigning the crew. This means you can level or equip the crew while the Gauntlet is running, but their stats in the Gauntlet will not change.

In each Gauntlet round, when selecting crew to compete, there is one "featured skill" that occurs more frequently than the others (originally at a rate of 30% versus the normal rate of 14%^[1], but changed to a "much higher rate"^[2] on March 7th, 2017). Also, three traits are featured, which increase the chances of a critical score (see below).

Once competition starts, a player asks to Find Opponents, which then gives 6 possible opponents to compete in 2 skills. The list of possible opponents can be refreshed by spending 50 merits. After choosing which opponent to face, and which of your crew to use, there are 3 rolls per skill, with the results summed together for a final score. If the player's score is higher than the opponent's, the player earns trophies, which are used to determine rank, and the losing player loses trophies. The crew used then is fatigued, losing 20% of their possible skill until a 4-hour refresh occurs. If the player loses the match, the crew is exhausted, and cannot be used until the 4-hour refresh is complete. Either fatigue or exhaustion can be immediately refreshed for dilithium.

After the 2 days are complete, ranked rewards are given, and the next Gauntlet round begins.

Rewards

The Gauntlet has 3 sets of rewards, all consisting of Reward Types specific for The Gauntlet.

• Single win rewards, which are the default reward for a win. These are a Currency Box.
• Streak Rewards, which are earned after 3 successive wins. Longer streaks earn better rewards.
• Ranked Rewards, which are given at the end of The Gauntlet based on your rank.

In addition, Sreak and Ranked rewards have a chance of containing the Gauntlet's Rare Reward.

• the Rare reward, which is usually a Legendary crew

The Currency Box can contain one of:

• Credits (roughly around 1000-8000)
• Merits (30-100) ^[2]

If the loot is a rare reward, there is a 50% chance of it being the current rare reward listed above, and a 50% chance (distributed equally) of it being one of the previous rare rewards. So at present (March 2023), a crew reward is 50% likely to be Mirror Mariner, with a 6.25% chance for each of Locutus, Guinan, Caretaker, Armus, Red Angel, Balok, Tribbled Koloth and Korax, or First Flight Archer.

Crit Chances

For each hit a combatant makes, they have a chance to perform a 'crit' (critical hit) doing double damage. Crit chance is determined by how many traits that crew member has that match the featured traits.

The chances of how many of their 3 or 6 sub-battles (depending on whether one or two matching skills) will be critical hits are as follows:

Crit Traits

Crit traits are not selected at random from all traits in the game. Instead, a pre-selected combination is used for each gauntlet, each combination having a particular featured skill associated with it. The combination changes every 24 hours; given that gauntlets last for up to 48 hours, this means that there are always two separate trait combinations in use, one in its first 24 hours (which will be the combination for anyone who joins a gauntlet during that time), and one in its final 24 hours. These are sometimes referred to as "A" and "B" gauntlets.

The table below shows all combinations observed in the game over a six-month period. "Notable Crew" match two or three traits in the given gauntlet (i.e. they have a 45% or 65% crit chance) and have at least one pair of proficiency rolls in the top ten for that skill combination.
