Now cured of the Vidiian phage, Danara Pel is working on a new analgesic that will bring relief to those suffering even the most agonizing diseases. She'll need help completing it in time for the Daystrom Award.
The away team proposed a modified structure for Danara's analgesic molecule, one that lets it target a wider range of pain receptors. Thanks to their help, she should have something to show the Daystrom Institute.
The away team could not increase the effectiveness of Danara's new compound beyond that of known analgesics. She has nothing to show to the Daystrom Institute and nothing to help her patients.

Doctor Toby Russell has asked the Augments to sponsor her genetronics research, and despite the unethical practices involved, they are extremely interested. Starfleet needs an away team to dissuade them.
The away team successfully demonstrates how unproven and costly Russell's genetronics work is. The Augments are less put off by the risks it poses to patients, but they still turn down Russell's request.
The away team makes a passionate case against Russell's research, citing the risks to patients, but the Augments are more interested in the rewards than the costs. They are likely to accept her proposal.

The genetic engineering Angosian soldiers were subjected to may lead to gene therapies for dying patients, but the soldiers are wary of any doctors who approach them. See if an away team can earn their trust.
The away team suggests a partnership: doctors will study the Angosian veterans' physiology while also treating their symptoms. Impressed by the away team's honesty, they agree to help with the research.
The Angosian soldiers are immediately suspicious of the away team, and the friendlier the away team acts, the more nervous the become. They will not be contributing to research for the Daystrom Award.

Biosynthetic limbs are valuable prosthetics, but some can be difficult for the body to adjust to. Nog has asked one of the Augments' researchers to develop a better model, and she could use an away team's help.
Nog was impressed by the away team and the researcher's work. The neural interface they developed should make it easier for patients to adapt to prosthetics, and is sure to impress the Daystrom Institute.
The away team developed a biosynthetic limb with increased flexibility, but it does not help with the pain some patients experience. The Augment researcher does not want to show it to the Daystrom Institute.

Given their resilient immune systems, a few Ferengi agreed to try a new antibiotic developed by the Augments' researchers. They claim the treatment made them ill, but a medical exam should reveal the truth.
The away team discovered that an ingested mix of herbs, not the new antibiotic, caused the Ferengi's fever. When confronted, they did not admit to taking the herbs, but they did quietly withdraw their complaint.
As far as the away team can tell, the Ferengi who tried the new antibiotic are genuinely ill. They don't know if the antibiotic was responsible, but it will need further testing to be submitted for the Daystrom Award.

After his experiences with Khan Noonien Singh, Leonard McCoy does not trust the Augments, but he does appreciate medical research. Convince McCoy to accept the Augments' help in this competition.
The away team eventually reassured McCoy that if he accepts the Augments' support, he, not they, will have the rights to whatever he develops. Satisfied, he gives the Augments a long list of materials for his research.

The Daystrom Institute has been highly anticipating an entry from Doctor Julian Bashir, but he is busy treating an outbreak of dysplasia. Help Bashir complete his duties so he can participate in the competition.
The away team developed a fast-acting dysplasia treatment that impressed even Doctor Bashir. In fact, he says it inspired him to develop a similar compound to submit to the Daystrom Institute.
The dysplasia outbreak continues spreading faster than either the away team or Bashir can account for. Bashir is committed to finding a cure, though he likely won't be able to participate in the Daystrom Award.

Having benefited from synaptic treatment herself, Sarina Douglas has asked to develop a similar therapy for the Daystrom Institute’s competition. The Augments want her medical expertise assessed.
The away team's tests reveal that while Sarina has no hands-on expertise with medical procedures, the theory behind her proposed treatment is sound. They recommend assigning a team of doctors to work with her.
The synaptic treatment Sarina proposed is described in very abstract terms, and the away team can neither tell what it will do or whether she has the means to pull it off in time for the Daystrom Award.

The Suliban Cabal has undergone some of the most extensive physical modifications known to Starfleet. If you can find someone in the Cabal willing to submit to study, they may suggest potential medical advances.
The away team finds a Cabal defector currently disguised as a Vulcan scientist. They offer protection from her former companions in exchange for non-invasive exams by some of the Augment-sponsored scientists.
It takes the away team to track down a single member of the elusive Suliban Cabal, and he attacks them on sight. The away team's research proposition is answered only by a barrage of rifle fire.

The Augments are interested in expanding the limits of human consciousness. The Bynars' synaptic processors may suggest a way to increase humanoids' cognitive processing capabilities.
The away team's research suggests that synaptic processors could facilitate the sharing of images and basic thoughts between non-telepathic individuals. If this theory can be applied, it could lead to remarkable discoveries.
After studying synaptic processors used by the Bynar, the away team concludes that they can only be used when connected to a computer database. The Augments are disappointed to hear of this limitation.
