Engineering Quark contacts your crew in a foul mood–there are too many people refusing to leave the holosuites and unwilling to pay his higher rates. Sisko is unwilling to solve the matter, so he is asking for your help. Do it and he'll pay your crew in praise. Your security team aides Quark in shuffling many of the holosuite overstayers out without too much trouble, while your engineering team helps him update the holosuites' timing protocols. Your security team attempts to help Quark, but some of the people they try to remove become violent. Ultimately, al of the holosuites have to be shut down for an hour, leaving Quark complaining about lost business.

The Grand Nagus contacts you asking for your help. Many Ferengi are becoming taken with life in the holosuites. He would like you to coax them out before the Ferengi Alliance does it by pulling the plug on their businesses-permanently. Your security officers have to use a firm hand, but are able to successfully extricate many of the Ferengi from the holosuites. Your security officers attempt to help the Ferengi, but have little success, even when trying to confront them with the likelihood of lost latinum.

Rom asks you to collect some data in your investigation of Minuet to help him improve the AI on his brother's holosuites, in an attempt to help him bring in more customers. There's a great deal of concern over giving Rom anything that might make the current situation worse, but your crew finds a few interesting bits in Minuet's code and agrees to share them with Rom. Though some members of your crew are happy to help Rom out, they can find nothing in their research that doesn't seem like it would make a bad situation worse.

Amidst an already tenuous situation, Quark is accosted by an unhappy customer who accuses him of selling holonovels that contain viruses that can shut down a whole holodeck. He pleads innocent and asks you to help with his defense. Your crew researches the matter and learns that the problem arose from a program Quark himself had bought and resold. While Quark isn't the creator, he did distribute it and will have to suffer the consequences. Fortunately, the problem is fixable. Your crew tries to look into the matter, but as far as they can tell, this problem originates from Quark and Quark alone.

Science Engineering Starfleet Command enlists your crew in investigating Quark's holosuites, since they are the site of the first reports of personnel refusing to return to the real world, and ensure that no foul play has occured on the part of the bartender. Much to the Ferengi's annoyance, your crew takes over the holosuites to investigate the matter and is able to verify with a reasonable degree of certainty that no external tampering has occurred. Internal tampering, on the other hand... Your crew attempts to investigate the holosuites, but is intercepted by Quark. Even after he is forced to admit them by Deep Space Nine's Constable, they are unable to confirm or rule out any tampering.

Science Engineering Several reports of injury in otherwise safe holosuites have Quark under a microscope, with a certain "L" word being tossed around. He pleads with you and your crew to figure out what's wrong with the stupid old things. Your engineering team manages to locate the issue in the holosuites and fix it. The odd thing, however, is that this change to the simulations was made from within the program. Your engineering team spends days working on the holosuites, learning nothing useful. Just as they believe they are getting close, the holosuite seems to activate itself, placing the crew members in a skydive simulation--without parachutes!

Diplomacy Medicine As exciting as life in Starfleet can be, Reginald Barclay knows firsthand how challenging it can be and how that can push certain people into the fantasy indulgences of the holodeck. He enlists your crew to help him find solutions. Your ship's counselor and medical staff undertake extensive research, evaluating not just Federation resources but those from other cultures to develop protocols for helping Starfleet officers deal positively with challenges they may face. Your ship's counselor and medical staff undertake research into the matter, but it's a daunting task. While a resolution may arise down the line, Starfleet needs something concrete now.

Diplomacy Command Impatient with the state of things, William Riker believes the derelict personnel should just be fired and replaced. Convinced Starfleet will agree, he tasks your crew with training the new recruits, leaving no room for disagreement. A lot of the cadets and ensigns are greener than usual, due to their early promotions, but you and your crew manage to whip them into shape and prepare them to make their way onto ships and stations within the Federation. You and your crew attempt to give the cadets and ensigns the benefit of your experience, but there is far too much they don't know and you cannot honestly recommend them for service.

Just to ensure that there's not someone on the outside that might attempt to disrupt his program, he asks your engineers to increase his program's security protocols. Your engineering and science teams evaluate the code responsible for the Doctor to make sure that someone else manipulating the holodeck cannot damage his code. After meeting Minuet, he is certain her actions are completely benign. DIALOGUE FAIL

But getting a list of candidates requires stealth and willful disregard, so he's enlisted your crew for the job. Your crew manages to pull the list together without losing their jobs for violating Starfleet personnel rights to privacy. Tom Paris' idea sees some success, which he boasts about, but it still is far from a solution. DIALOGUE FAIL

Engineering Detective Data and Dixon Hill are among two of many fictional sleuths who are insistent on lending their unique talents to the holodeck investigation. Starfleet is in need of someone to keep them out of the way and you've drawn the short straw! Through some quick thinking, your engineering team creates a tantalizing mystery simulation to occupy the sleuths. By the time they've figured out your ruse, your engineering crew manages to return them to their programs. Your engineering crew attempts to program a tantalizing holo mystery for the sleuths, but they quickly manage to make their way out of the holodeck, disrupting Starfleet's investigation.

Engineering Security Having dealt with the problems holograms can cause, Donik has offered to engineer time-based restraints for the holodecks, but there are a few parts that are exclusively the property of Starfleet that he'll need. Your crew agrees to help Donik, but their request for the necessary equipment is denied. Your crew manages to sneak into an engineering facility where the equipment is being kept and Donik, true to his word, begins working on a restriction. Your crew agrees to help Donik, but their request for the necessary equipment is denied. When your crew attempts to break into the Starfleet engineering facility where the equipment is being held, they are caught.

Security Hirogen Alpha Karr offers his assistance to the Federation in solving their little holodeck addiction problem–by rewiring the holodecks to provide some incentive to leave. Starfleet command is naturally wary and elects your crew to monitor him. Karr and his engineers modify the holosuites at Quarks (in spite of his protests) and sure enough, several of the addicted officers come charging out, running for their lives. You think Karr for his help and restore the suites to safer settings. Your crew allows Karr's engineers to make some changes to holosuites within Quark's (much to the Ferengi's dismay), but it seems he took things too far, as several Starfleet officers are injured within the holosuites.

The holodeck irregularities have caused interference on Hirogen holoships, leading their hunting simulations to be replaced with gems such as Protons Be Free and Janeway Lambda One. They insist your crew fix this. The issue fixed, the Hirogen return to the hunt. Your security team manages to quickly subdue any violent outbursts while your officers try to dialogue with Iden about how his concerns can be resolved peacefully. He asserts that if they're so sure living among holograms is comparable, one should be ready to die among them as well. Command Security As an experiment, Hirogen engineers created simulations of people who exist in the real world, including Voyager's crew. But many of the holograms gained sentience and there is concern that they wish to replace the originals. Find the imposters. Your crew compares the replica crews and finds a few holograms posing as their originals. After sorting out the matter, your engineering team, unwilling to deactivate the holograms outright, segregates the program so it can no longer access reality. Your crew interviews each of the duplicated individuals, but cannot tell the real from the fakes. It is very possible that Starfleet is being infiltrated by holographic imposters, even now.
