The opinion of a loved one often prevents us from doing things we'd otherwise regret. Show Q how love has prevented some great blunders throughout history. Q supposes that, on occasion, love has saved certain beings from absolute disaster. Q sneers that if lesser beings need love to keep them from being idiots, then maybe they don't deserve to exist at all.

Even if Q gets rid of love, humans still have many other emotions, and love often provides an outlet for all of those emotions. Reason that beings would just become more distracted by their other emotions without love. Q admits that love is an efficient way of allowing beings to express all their other distracting emotions. Your away team's argument backfires: Q is now considering ridding the universe if ALL emotions!

Q obviously feels very strongly about saving the universe at any cost. Point out to Q the irony of loving the universe so much that he would rid it of love just to save it. Q grumbles that your away team may have a point about his extreme reaction, but maintains that, extreme or not, it is necessary. Q has tears in his eyes laughing at your away team's pathetic concept of irony.

There's nothing like the feeling of falling in love--it's fun! And who appreciates fun more than Q? Point out to Q how much less fun the universe would be without love. Q admits that without love, he would have far less ways to have a little fun with lesser beings now and then... not that he has time at the moment, of course. Q sternly reminds your away team that now isn't the time for fun. The universe is tearing itself apart!

Join your chosen away team in making personal appeals to Q, explaining how important love has been in your own lives, and how it would devastate you if it were gone. Q admits that you have become important to him over the years, as you try to resolve the temporal anomaly crisis together. How about he leaves you love, but take it away for everyone else? Q coldly rebuffs your attempts to manipulate him. You've been useful so far, but your feelings ultimately don't matter to him.

Diplomacy Physical love is a biological process which, in some species, is critical to their well-being. Point out to Q how damaging it could be if, say, Vulcans couldn't deal with the pon-farr as they usually do. Q supposes that he will have to give a bit more consideration to his idea, but maintains that it's still probably the right thing to do. Q irritatedly dismisses your away team, insisting that he'll resolve any biological conflicts along with removing the concept of love.

Love has driven humans to risk their lives in pursuit of protecting those they love. Point out to Q how love spurs humans not to be too timid or reserved to take bold actions. Q admits that humanity might still be poking sticks at rocks in caves if not for the motivation of love. Q laughs at your away team's ridiculous argument that anything that drives humans to risk their own lives is a good thing.

Command Q's argument assumes all beings are meant to be philosophers and scientists and seekers of truth, when in fact many are happier raising families or being with loved ones. Show Q that not everyone is drawn to the same things. Q concedes that it might actually work against his purpose to force beings to do something when their heart isn't in it, or their natural talents lie elsewhere. Q sniffs that a being's personal preferences shouldn't matter when it comes to solving the universe's problems. Every being has a duty to do so, whether they like it or not.

Q has continually interfered in Picard's life, one man among countless humans. Doesn't this suggest that Q holds some affection for Picard, affection which would vanish if he were to go through with his plan? Q admits that sparring with Picard would lack a certain element without their--dare he say--mutual appreciation for each other. Q rolls his eyes and insists that Picard means no more to him than a lab rat to a scientist.

Command Security Many beings voluntarily opt of out romance or families, instead choosing to devote themselves to the very pursuits Q desires for them. Argue that Q should trust that enough people will reject love of their own accord. Q concedes that many beings are able to overcome the distraction of love to focus on more important matters... but not enough. Q jeers that even those who reject love might secretly pine for it, and maybe it's not so much they rejected it as it rejected them.

Science Medicine Q wants to eliminate love from the universe... but has he forgotten that reproduction among sentient beings requires at least some form of physical attraction, if not emotional? Remind him of basic biology. Though Q scoffs at the baser ways of lesser beings, he admits that your away team has a solid point about reproduction. Q laughs at your away team's points about reproduction. He'll just give lesser beings new ways to reproduce, or make more himself!

Love for another has often given individuals the strength to endure any number of trials, physical or emotional. Present examples to Q of how love quite often literally gives us a reason to live. Q admits that love could be an evolutionary trait worth considering before completely tossing it out. Q doesn't find this a perk, but a weakness of humanity. If humans can't find anything to live for without love, it's a sign they are lesser beings.

Q's decision appears to be based mostly on humanity (and his own younger self.) Point out to Q that there are many, many species in the universe, and not all of them approach love in the same way. Q admits that his view may be a bit myopic, but maintains that humanity needs to abandon love in order to evolve, as other species have. Q sarcastically thanks your away team for pointing out to him--an omnipotent being--the many variations of life in the universe.

Q admits that he and Miss Q have a "history", but maintains that this was but a small factor in the decision to mate. Q laughs at your away team's attempts to apply their primitive understanding of mating to the Q.

Command Wanting to make a loved one proud has motivated many beings to take actions they otherwise would not. Show Q how much might not have been accomplished if not for love. Q admits that love has motivated many lesser beings to evolve in ways they might not have had the energy to push towards otherwise. Q rolls his eyes and rants again about how humans are the laziest creatures in the universe.
