Storyline

Announcement

There are some who find the rules in organizations like Starfleet to be more guidelines than hardlines. But the consequences for crossing those lines can be dire. [1]

Prologue

  • Ensign Mesk: "Starfleet is too strict, especially for a hardened Orion like me! What do you all say we liven things up around here? Maybe steal a Genesis Device, reset some planets!?"
  • Projector Spock: "I believe that would result in a court martial at minimum, Ensign. I would advise against it. Though I would also add you are not alone in finding Starfleet's rules too restrictive. And some who believe they are not strict enough."
  • Lt. Commander Ron Docent: "Starfleet rules AREN'T strict enough. Things are way too chaotic, especially after the temporal anomalies began. Too many mavericks and rule breakers. We need to go back to the way things were - to stability, to sanity, to my blood pressure being below 140/90!"
  • Orion Hurricane Ortegas: "You should get that checked out. But there are a lot of debates right now about whether Starfleet is too strict or not strict enough. I know you'd rather be out there with the action than knee—deep in politics, but they've asked us to help look into this. I'm counting on you."

Intermission

  • Orion Hurricane Ortegas: "See, Captain? It's all a big mess. All egos and bureaucracy, no answers or action. Which is exactly why you gotta bend the rules every now and then, learn to work in the grey, or else nothing gets done. On that note, l have a little side mission for you, if you're game."
  • Orion Hurricane Ortegas: "A new acquaintance is working on a little project at the Fleet Museum, but he's missing a very important piece — the boatswain's whistle from the remnants of the Enterprise D. Word is it's a paperweight in some dusty old office in San Francisco."
  • Choice A
    • Captain: "Why doesn't your acquaintance just ask for it?"
    • Orion Hurricane Ortegas: "He has. I think he made a pretty good case for wanting it too. But, you know, rank and ego and all that. And for what? For it to just sit there being treated like some random trinket."
  • Choice B
    • Captain: "You want us to break into headquarters and steal a piece of Starfleet history?"
    • Lt. Commander Ron Docent: "Exactly! What you're talking about is madness. lt'll put us on the fast track to court martial or even discharge if we're caught! On the other hand...you know what, maybe I will join you."
  • Choice C
    • Captain: "All right, Mr. Orion Pirate, looks like you‘re up!"
    • Ensign Mesk: "About time! I know ten different ways to break a door lock with a combadge. Ortegas has been teaching me."
  • Orion Hurricane Ortegas: "I have the location if you're in, Captain. Just make sure you don't get caught."
